Replacing steering wheel with rocker buttons for PDK on 997.2

This is mine that I upgraded from the stock multi-function/heated wheel:

A couple of points of note. I bought the newer 991.2 wheel from eBay and had to wait a while for a heated version with leather airbag to come up for sale. Only problem was the wheel I bought had the drive selector knob which isn't compatible with the 997.2. So I had a choice; either a) leave it as was and just accept the knob would be a non-functioning ornament, or b) remove the knob. Complication for option b was there would be a hole left behind when I remove the drive selector knob.

I decided to go with option b anyway and eventually managed to buy a replacement silver trim that was for a car without the drive selector. So my wheel is now exactly as I want it, i.e. has the multi-function controls, heating, and has a leather airbag. I fitted the STMV1-H module from GPS Adapter and it was a straight sawp with no need to code anything.
Hello, hopefully not too late to continue thread. I want to do this swap too and wondered if the 997.2 airbag can be used in the 991.2 steering wheel or do I need to buy 991.2 wheel and air bag? Many thanks in advance

They are different I’m afraid. The 991.2 airbag is smaller in diameter.

Yes, I’m 90% sure it’s the same airbag between the Macan and 991.2.

Although note there are a couple of variants, one being the standard plastic airbag and the other is leather covered, but they are both compatible with those steering wheels.

Existing wheel and proposed wheel as below. Will I also need the STMV1 adapter?

That’s very similar to my old and new wheels. See below:

Both my old and new wheels have heating so I bought the STMV1-H module from GPS Adapter. The adapter is needed for 3 things:

Multi-function controls
Backlighting for the MF controls
Steering wheel heating

Other things like the gear change paddles and horn don’t require the module.

Looks like the wheel you’re looking at doesn’t have heating so you would buy the STMV1 module instead.

A couple of other things to consider are the airbag and drive selector rotary dial. I bought a wheel that had the leather covered airbag as it looks and feels a bit nicer than the standard airbag. But that might not matter to you as it’s a subtle change TBF.

The wheel I bought can from a car that had the rotary drive selector dial for comfort, sport, sport+ etc. The 997.2 doesn’t support this dial regardless of the GPS Adapter module. So I removed this and bought a new silver trim piece so there was no hole where the drive selector was previously.

Thanks for getting back to me. Looks like I have the correct wheel to swap so just need the GPS adapter. Many thanks for your help
Was your replacement wheel from a Macan?

I was told it was from a 991.2, but it could have come from a Macan as they all use the same wheel.

Does anyone know if a 997.2 GT3 wheel will fit ok, and reuse my standard PDK 2S airbag?
