My car had a replacement engine put in by porsche in 2009, the car is a 2003. The engine has done roughly 13k miles now. This leads me to a few questions.
The IMS bearing, was this ever upgraded or redesigned, so will a 2009 engine (Albeit not built in 2009 probably) be subject to the potential IMS failure. I only mention this as 13k miles in 4 years is low use and i know for a fact that in the year before i bought it it covered less than 500 miles...so it has been stood periodically. This is the worst scenario for porsche engines with regards to the IMS
Second, is the service intervall on a 2009 engine going to fall in line with the MY2004, or earlier as with the rest of the car?
Third, was there any changes to the motor over its life after 2003??
The motor always seems to run hot, even after a long slow drive at 50 on the lanes, it smells very hot, obviously so as soon as you get out and pings a lot. Was there any change to the cooling system in those intervening years?
Thanks
