Was just wondering if any has had a new replacement engine from Porsche, and destroyed that also...??
Or has they fix the common problems with IMS and RMS?
I got a replacement engine in april 2011, and so far so good;-)
Just wondering...

Sorry my english, I'm from denmark;-)

Regards
Stefan

They didn't fix all the problems. But the younger the better. Not until Gen2 all the mentioned issues have been gone.

I know you are right about that they havent completely fixed the problem, but has anybody destroyed nr.2 engine?

Regard

Stefan

I'm not aware of the same owner having 2 engines go wrong, you would be very unlucky indeed, and statistically the probability must be extremely low odds.

Anybody got a replacement engine from Porsche?
And have you had any problems?

Regards
Stefan

Bought my 996 C4S last Nov and previous owner had a new engine fitted by Guildford OPC Feb 12. This was due to a IMS failure (42,000 miles). Still having the receipt in the vehicle docs wallet, the price all in was £16k. Better me than him!
So far, everything is fine and to be honest i dont think about it.

Wow the twisted economics of Porsches right now is incredible. For the 16K cost of the new engine the previous owner could have got a good secondhand 996, fitted a precautionary ceramic IMS bearing to it, used his old car as a very stylish chicken shed for the back garden and still had change for a bag of chips on the way home. :?:

This is incorrect as the 996 Gen 2 cars also had similar IMS and RMS issues. My own previous Gen 2 Targa had the RMS problem.

If you count RMS, IMS and bore scoring (in that order, served with hors d'oeuvres of LokaSil porosity and D-chunking, and rounded off, with erm, a night cap of cylinder ovalisation), then only 997.2 fully avoids the feast.

Oh, and the Mezger blocks.
