Guys. Question about the RMS. Mine has just started leaking after being replaced in 2010. I have a 1999 C2 and the RMS was first replaced by Parrs in Crawley at considerable cost. My question is – how long should I expect this job to last? 3 years or so seems very short to me, or is this standard? Also, it's only just started leaking so am I ok to drive it for a while, say for a week (500 miles) until I can get it repaired? Thanks in advance for any answers.

I'm not sure when the latest RMS came out but it may of been 3 years ago so you may already have the most recent one, refitting a new one and not having it leak is usually down to two things whether it was fitted ok in the first place or if you have an off centre crankshaft.

Some have never leaked others have a few times, I changed mine after my rebuild, its was misting slightly but now its uber dry but how long for I don't know.

Dont want to worry you, but you should check the IMS also..might be that leaking?

Apart from the mess the leak is only a problem if the lost oil isn't replaced. Keep an eye on levels and replace the seal whenever you can.

Technically you can contaminate the clutch (which then needs a new clutch)

MY2005 was final revision.

Leaks were all solved (at factory or retrofit) by a metal reinforced PTFE RMS seal design and a precision insertion tool and specific TSB insertion procedures.

Any recent leaks will be down to poor insertion (especially worth checking if not OPC).

I agree, I had my rms and ims recently done by OPC. Six months and 1400 miles later, I noticed a small leak. OPC stripped the car down and found the replacement ims part to be defective. All the work was carried out foc under warranty.

RMS leak

Guys. Thanks for the replies so far. I have another question, does anyone have photos or a website with photos of the underside of a 911 when the RMS leaks? Or indeed photos of where the IMS leaks? It's difficult for me to get under the car to see exactly which part is leaking and i'd like to know more. Any help gratefully received.

I now have a picture of mine, I'm taking the gearbox off so took a pic for you whilst under there. The red circle is where you would normally expect oil to leak from.
