Ok, here is something for you all to debate about.

924, 944 and 968... A real Porsche?

Discuss :)

(the touch paper is burning, so I am off to hide!)

Well, this is not a debate I am going to get drawn into, but I saw an absolutely mint 968 in dark grey metallic last week, and thought, yes, I could quite easily have one of those in the garage. Next to the 993 of course!

I can only comment from what I have heard from 968 owners, but they are a very well set up car for track days. Near enough 50:50 weight ratio

(oh my god, I'm "trying" to be technical on a Friday afternoon after a liquid lunch - Therefore, please ignore any posts! )

The looks might not be to everyones taste, but I would have a 968 or a 924/944 as a daily driver!

I'd happily have a 968 I think they look very mean and are still a head turner.

924 er no sorry I dont do VW coupe's.....

944 See above but add 'on steriods' at the end.

Flame Proof jacket on.

I'm the same

I do like the look of the 968 and would'nt mind getting one if I've got some spare pennies.....that reminds me - 85 million quid on the euro lotto tonite.........if only

924 is really not my cup of tea, just on looks alone. But as far as I'm concerned, all the cars that are sold with Porsche badge as factory standard is a real Porsche, regardless whether I ,like the car or not. Heck, even the KN is a real Porsche!

the 924 is what got me into Porsche ownership back in 93 and i still have a soft spot for them, don't really get the VW coupe argument as although originally planned for VW,Porsche couldn't buy the design back quick enough when VW shelved their plans on selling them, poor man's Porsche perhaps but still a Porsche, and if you're a true enthusiast about the marque but can't afford air-cooled money then going for the 924/44/68's is still a decent introduction to Porsche ownership IMHO

My first Porsche was an 81 924, the second was an 87 944, then a 93 968CS and in time I moved through a 3.2 Carrera, a 964 until I ended up with the 993.

I always consider the 924 to be a real Porsche, but I do know that there is a snobby element in PCGB which seems to wish they were never made.

I think that these days, the very fact that there are so many 924's in very good condition bolsters the companies reputation for making very good cars that last well.
