I checked my car and the lighter doesn’t work with out the keysSo would the charger work via the lighter?

In Phil's absence...

No. You will need to use the battery terminal clips. I leave mine clipped on all the time and run the wire out from under the boot carpet, just plugging in when necessary.

You can have the ciggy lighter rewired to be active all the time.

Thanks Robert - I'd agree with that. Interestingly, I can't think of any car I've owned where the cig socket worked without the keys in the ignition. Having said that, a lot of people are purchasing the charger with a cig socket adaptor... maybe we'll start receiving some back!

Whilst on the subject, due to the demand we're seeing, we've now decided to stock the entire range of CTEK chargers rather than just two.

So will it work with the lighter?

I know you can hook it up to the battery but i'm lazy and the lighter would be more agreeable

And how can one check if its working

:)

Porsche tell me that all water cooled cars are wired for charging via the cigarette lighter,

But not air cooled, hence the additional harness you can buy with the Porsche charge o mat II ( with crocodile clips to clip on to the battery)

Its easy to wire up the cigarette lighter to permanent live, I have done this on my 993 and it charges fine through the cigarette lighter with my charge-o-mat

ask your local auto electrician,

or pop along and see the guys at Tognola in datchet,3 mins from junction 5 of the M5 they're very reasonable (£50 an hour) and top blokes

you take a live from the fuse box - early 996 do not have a permanent live cigar lighter but face lift onwards do
