Took my car in to have the caliper seals and brake hoses replaced. When I turned up I was told they hadn't managed to get any rebuild kits for the rears - everywhere sold out, take 2 weeks to get them from Germany blah blah - offered some refurbished calipers instead which I accepted as I was already there.

Make of this what you will - I probably won't go again - I feel like I'm being taken for a ride. All I can hope is that the calipers really are a refurbished set and not some old ones they've got kicking around - I'll let you know.

I hope the refurbished set were cheaper than the new set

I suppose, in their defence, they would only source through official Porsche channels and it is conceivable that while others has some no official source did. Unlikely, but possible.

I was only hoping to have to pay for the rubber seals - £22. Two refurbished calipers will cost £120-140 - although I will save maybe £50 on labour costs.

Does that mean you get to hang on to your old calipers as well though?

I doubt it - usually refurbished prices are based on an exchange basis.

Well, I've got the car back - and to be fair they seem to have done a good job - the refurbished calipers look like new and it's good to know the brakes will be safe once the crazy amount of pedal travel goes away. Cost over £500 though.
