Open letter to Porsche fans looking for a reliable dealer....
Dear Porsche Guildford
These are my issues so far for you to consider.
The tyre pressures on the car (1997 911 Targa 20,000 miles) as received were 30 31 34 36 - they should all be 36 especially since the "annual check" that you stamped the book for says they are checked and adjusted as necessary.
The wheels were out of balance
front 30 and 15
rear 80 and 35
This resulted in a high frequency shake over 100 mph.
The nearside rear wheel has a heavy wear on the innermost band of tread which is 1/8th inch more worn than the next band in. This wear pattern is not present on the offside tyre. (but it passed the MOT that you arranged - without comment)
The rear wheel arches indicate some kind of marking by a hard object which has removed some of the coating. This marking is heaviest on the nearside where the wear is different on the tyre.
These are not problems I expected to discover for myself on a car from a Porsche main dealer, on a high performance car costing £37,000.
I am driving the car to Italy on Monday for a holiday which means I have to replace the rear tyres tomorrow. Chessington Tyres Alton are doing this since at least they know how to look after a customers safety.
I will visit you on my return to discuss recompense.
