Open letter to Porsche fans looking for a reliable dealer....

Dear Porsche Guildford
These are my issues so far for you to consider.
The tyre pressures on the car (1997 911 Targa 20,000 miles) as received were 30 31 34 36 - they should all be 36 especially since the "annual check" that you stamped the book for says they are checked and adjusted as necessary.
The wheels were out of balance
front 30 and 15
rear 80 and 35
This resulted in a high frequency shake over 100 mph.
The nearside rear wheel has a heavy wear on the innermost band of tread which is 1/8th inch more worn than the next band in. This wear pattern is not present on the offside tyre. (but it passed the MOT that you arranged - without comment)
The rear wheel arches indicate some kind of marking by a hard object which has removed some of the coating. This marking is heaviest on the nearside where the wear is different on the tyre.
These are not problems I expected to discover for myself on a car from a Porsche main dealer, on a high performance car costing £37,000.
I am driving the car to Italy on Monday for a holiday which means I have to replace the rear tyres tomorrow. Chessington Tyres Alton are doing this since at least they know how to look after a customers safety.
I will visit you on my return to discuss recompense.

Hmmm. This could get messy!

Why is it garages are always falling foul of this sort of thing? Bunch of crooks, the lot of them! :(

Edited to say good luck. I hope you work it out with them.

Makes you wonder wherw new business comes from , many main dealers treat customers like mugs .

Another thing to always check is make sure they've torqued the wheel nuts correctly (assuming you have a torque wrench).

Sad ain't it!

It's because naive buyers go and buy brand new cars from these main dealers and they don't really need to beg the customers to come and buy the car. The car sells itself. Then there is the issue of warranty on new cars and they can quite easily make a living. We should put up some sort of list of THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE REALLY UGLY!

This is something that everyone should check by default!!! I witnessed a very ugly crash about 4 months ago whereby a Land Rover Discovery travelling at speed lost a front wheel and flipped, landing at a right angle on top of a car coming in the opposite direction. I had to give a witness statement to the Police the next day, and he told me that the car had been into a Main Dealer for a service a couple of weeks earlier, and it appears that they might not have tightened the wheel nuts properly!!!

This is a simply check and should be done every time some one touches the wheels of your car!

I was horrified when you described that to me on Sunday -- you'd think this would be a 'given' when any car's serviced but - sadly - it appears not.

Guildford are not my favourite dealer. We are still waiting for our returnable deposit back. Three weeks we have been waiting.
Just glad i'm buying my car off someone else. Will be issuing a writ if it doesn't turn up by end of this week.

Credit where credit is due.

I am now a happy customer in that having complained, my complaint was treated seriously and corrective action taken.

The car is now fine after 2 new rear tyres (from Chessington tyres Alton Hants yesterday) and a full alignment check at PORSCHE Guildford today.

The service manager Claus Andersen at Guidford dealt very professionaly with me, apologised for my problems and refunded the cost of the suspect tyre and also donated two litres of Mobile1 for my trip to Italy/France next week.

Thanks Claus.

Not all bad then. Olivia, I suggest you phone porsche UK about your lack of deposit, this should sort it out.

That's good news Stevo....as I'm the first to criticise bad service let me be one of the first to praise good . Well done to Claus Andersen and his staff . Hope he reads this thread , you should email him and show him the power of the net .

Well done Stevo for posting the good news, normally we're all very happy to knock people down but not as good as promoting them when they do something well.

Glad it all worked out for you in the end, and enjoy your trip!

Klaus is a nice chap extremely coutreous and helpful. Now may we have our deposit back!?
Klaus is all of the above but its my understanding he is the sales manager and nothing to do with the service dept. who carry out all the work on second hand cars.
