Hello,

I am a proud owner of an 08 c2s. I am concerned that my son has been driving the car, as he is not allowed. Is there a way for me to pull data off the car to see if the car has been driven, speeds at certain times, etc. I am trying to figure out at what times he has been driving it and at what speeds and where if possible. Is there an onboard computer that will give me this information? If so, how do I extract this information from the car?

Cheers!
Tom

Hi :bye:

Basically, no. It would be far easier to either hide the keys a bit better or buy a cheap CCTV solution to get to the bottom of it.

Note down the mileage when you park it.

That's got to be the easiest way.

Or set your seating position and mirrors on both keys to your liking (provided he is not the same height as you). If the seats and mirrors move when you unlock the car you'll know something is up.

The DME report is massively comprehensive, engine speed, throttle position, at particular operating hours and events (so it'll tell you when a fault code was registered and the associated data) but there isn't anything in there to say 'at this date and time, this happened'.
it's all done on operating hours, so impossible to prove who and when.

Get a GPS tracking device, and either install it permanently or just hide it in the frunk. That way you can have a clear breakdown of when, where, and how far he's using your car. You may even be able to track it from your mobile phone.
P.S. If I had a son that did such a thing, I'd be p*ssed off beyond belief for numerous reasons!

Do you already have a Porsche/Cobra tracker fitted? If you keep both the tags hidden or on you at all times then the minute he's off the drive your mobile phone will ring.

Just disconnect the Mass Air Flow sensor, he isn't going anywhere then.

p.s. I hope he has Insurance to drive it as if not and he gets a pull the 911 is off to the grease monkey compound for a good few hours!

No one should drive a car without permission - family included.
Record the mileage as a quick-fix, as well as some of the more comprehensive options mentioned above.

If he is driving un-insured and without consent, not only is that completely unacceptable, he is also not legal.

All replys noted, however I am trying to deal with a past incident.

The car has PCM, so does that mean it automatically stores the data as seen on this page? Or does it have to be activated to begin storing "lap time" data?

I guess what I am looking for is something to come up that shows me times and speeds so I can figure out if, when, and at what speeds he was driving the car on a particular day last week. Can I connect my ipod and pull this data off?

Thanks!

You cannot do this, unfortunately. Even Porsche with a PIWIS cannot do this, AFAIK.

I'm guessing your son is in trouble with plod over this?
