What is a 96p 993 C2s in silver with grey leather turbo front spoiler and brake air ducts with 2 previous owners and full porsche service history worth. It is in good condition i think it is at a porsche specialist forcourt. It requires disks and pads all round and a 12 month service 2 new front tyres and ther are a couple of stone chips on the bonnet apart from that the car is in good condition. The dealer said he will carry out all the work required but will not move on 37K. I am paying to much for this car?

The price will also be mileage-dependent. How many miles are on the clock? If up to around 35,000 miles, I should think the price is about right. But check accident history, get an "HPI" done, but probably best is a full inspection.

Price is about right for what other people are paying for a 96 "S" but IMO is too much to pay for a non turbo 993, better off spending 28K on a narrow body and then spending 4-5k getting it right, see my signature for a basic list.

just my 2p

If the car is straight and the mileage reasonable then the price sounds fair. There are people asking more for similar cars.

I respect Poons comments, but a 2'S is always going to be more expensive than a narrow body. You'd be lucky to get a good Turbo for the same money.

Hi Ash,

A couple of points from my often blank mind is this:

There is no such thing as saying you've paid to much when you're buying it, you can only judge this after you've sold it again and taken account of money you've spent on it. After all, 37K sounds a little high today, but it's not as much as one for 35K that within six months needs a new gearbox for 5K is it?

Second point is, I would have expected it to be a C4S for 37K

Another point is 37K is dangerously close to turbo 4 money. I paid 40K for an absolutely immaculate RHD turbo with sports seats, exhaust, 36K miles, FPSH, new tyres & brakes from a dealer.

Hi Ace? and fellow Kent person

Sounds like you got an absolute bargain. I spent most of the last year keeping an eye out for a nice LHD 993TT (thinking I might get a bargain) and didnt see much better priced than that and most were much higher mileage. I'm still of a mind that if the right one came along, I'd move on from the C2 cab, but very few examples out there. You said that you got it from a dealer. Was that a main or specialist?

It was a Maserati dealer. No doubt about it, the car is a minter. I'm as pleased as a pig in S81t!

I'm sure the 8 owners (now 9) would have put many off but in my mind that's ridiculous as it makes no difference to the 'car'.

It was up for £45K but I did some haggling before even viewing it. If it's of interest, the car is featured in this months turbo supplement :)

Was that Maranello's new outlet at Bat and Ball? They seem to have more 996 variants there than Maserati's and Ferraris

It's in Dorset. I came across it by fluke on the internet.

It's also worth remembering that colour can often affect the asking price.

Some colours are more popular than others. It's all down to personal choice and budget at the end of the day.

Basically if you find a good one, buy it. Any Porsche can easily clean you out of another £5K if something breaks and this is always unforseeable so better to buy a car you're happy with in the first place.
