PCCM+ Update (fixes navigation bug)

Hi all, I've been meaning to post this for a little while.

A number of PCCM+'s suffer from a bug in which the navigation directions on the centre console with the TOMTOM maps displays the number of kilometres to the next turn off when it is set to miles so the head unit may show 5 miles to the next turn off and your instrument cluster will say 7 miles to the next turn off.

I raised this issue with Porsche and after a couple months they provided me with an SD card and instructions to update the unit to the new firmware version and now it displays correctly. I've scanned the instructions and copied the contents of the update SD card all of which you can find following this link from my google drive should anyone want the update without the rigmarole of chatting with customer services back and fourth.

I assume newer PCCM+'s have the upgraded software and believe this issue is why for a time after their release they became unavailable for a short time while they updated the ones on the stock shelves. but to use who grabbed them when they first came out this will fix the issue, unsure if anything else is updated in the newer firmware version.

pictured below is the bug in question

I've noticed bug on mine where trip meter randomly resets, not the end of the world but will definitely compare this firmware with what I have. I don't use built in nav so haven't noticed the issue in this thread.

Thanks for posting!

I've had the same thing happen to mine: 2003 formerly with CDR23 MOST Sound Package (non-Bose).

It seemed to be triggered by my PCCM Plus resetting itself it use (screen freezes, then unit turns off and reboots with Porsche logo etc) and this seems to have been triggered by using a CPlay2Air device.

Every time I use the CPlay2Air I get glitches - pauses, resets etc - so I've stopped using it and use wired Apple CarPlay instead. So far, so good - no pauses, reboots or resets... (touch wood).

I since googled the CPlay2Air and there is a lot of negative press on it (wish I'd done that before buying it haha).

Are you using a CPlay2Air or something similar?

Did this resolve the random reset on the trip meter? I'm seeing the same issue on a 2003 Turbo with MOST.

Just had mine randomly reset the trip counter, mpg etc, again. In fact it's happened 3 times over the last 24 hours. Each time I was using wired CarPlay (previously it had happened when I was using CPlay2Air so I thought the issue might have been with that but it seems not). First time I was using Google Maps, the next two times it was Waze.

Seems to me that something in those apps sends something to the PCCM Plus unit which in turns sends a signal to the dash to reset the trip counter, MPG etc.

Does anyone know if this issue has been raised with Porsche and if there is a fix/update either out there or in the pipeline?

It may be that this glitch has been fixed in the same update as Essendia mentioned above, ie the one that resolves the distance anomaly in the dash's digital display.

I don't know if my PCCM Plus unit is running this update however, as I need to get directions coded into the dash display via PIWIS (I previously had a single
DIN CDR23 so this functionality wasn't switched on).

It could also be the case that once I get this coded in, the random trip meter resetting issue disappears.

Is anyone else with the PCCM Plus having this issue (it seems to only happen to me when connected to CarPlay) and been able to resolve it?

Thanks

Mine reset again today, was using Android Auto at time, navigation via Waze and listening to DAB+ My cluster says Navigation via App or something and is coded already as I had PCM originally. I was actually thinking about upcoding that feature to see if it fixed it.

On the plus I got 33.2mpg on my last 50 miles home after reset.

Thanks for this.

Interestingly I was listening to DAB each time mine reset too. I haven't tried Android Auto out on mine yet but imagine it's the same underlying issue.

Do you know if yours had the issue with mileage showing the same in kms as miles or do you not have the maps SD card on yours?

It's worth trying the update though to see if it stops the resetting of the trip meter.

I dont have the SD card, waze works fantastic for me.

I have had it reset numerous times without my phone plugged in. I just took the radio out yesterday and double checked all plugs are in securely. Since I had the battery disconnected, I had to reset my time, date etc, perhaps the reset will change something but I have to put some more miles on to tell. If that doesn't work, I am going to call my local dealer for a diagnostic appointment this coming week to see if they can shed some light on this issue or warranty a replacement.

I'll let you know if I discover any news.

Thanks for your replies. Please let me know how you get on. It might be something that disappears over time as they update the software.

Since I last posted mine hasn't reset once (when using CarPlay with wired lightning connector and also using Waze only) - I have tried a few things to try to make it reset but to no avail.

I agree Waze is excellent but the inbuilt Porsche maps are also very good - you're not reliant on your phone and connection, and the directions are clear and replayed underneath the Rev counter. I tend to program destination using the Porsche maps and then have the Waze screen on for notifications etc - the best of both worlds for me.

It's only a shame with the Porsche maps you can't program your destination in advance, eg from your home before setting off (like you can with Waze etc and also Pioneer AVICsync) - maybe this will come with an update down the line...

My local dealership (in the US) claims the unit does not communicate with the cluster and navigation instructions cannot be displayed in the cluster :dont know:

So the recommended solution for the trip odometer is to replace the cluster :?: :nooo:

I guess I could reinstall the CDR 23 and see if it changes anything but I won't have time for that for a while.

Had my PCCM installed by OPC Swindon at the end of last year they did a great job and Mark was really helpful.

Now using the car on a more regular basis and on Sunday over 90 miles the trip counter reset three times once with the phone connected via lightning cable using Waze and twice with the phone connected using Google maps.

Now running the Porsche maps (with navigation off) with the phone connected covered 42 miles not reset yet.

I've asked the OPC to look into it, they are going to talk to Porsche technical and get back to me. I will report back once they get back to me.

Can you please let us know if the OPC come back with anything? I have no route to ask as bought mine from Rose Passion and installed myself.

Thanks Gribbo - if you can let us know what the feedback is that would be great. It's clear it's not an isolated issue and seems to stem from when Waze or Google Maps are used.

Celbrett - my gut feel is that your contact is wrong: does your central display (under the Rev counter) show the radio station at the top (you can change the settings to do this)? My CDR23 communicated in this way and the PCCM Plus does the same. My understanding is that map directions from the inbuilt Nav can be included also, but for cars that didn't have PCM2 before this needs to be coded in by a dealer or specialist.

Finally the PCCM Plus can set the digital clock below the temperature gauge (assume this is the same for US models).

Ergo the PCCM Plus does 'talk' to the instruments
