As valuation seems ever to be a hot topic I thought this Porsche Club America link might be worth posting. Remembering the US values and laws may differ considerably from those in the UK.
While the processes of evaluation can vary dependant on the variety of requirements related to trying to attribute value, and that the content is not only Porsche related and with obvious American priorities I still learned something from it. I found the diminished value aspect of Insurance interesting and not something I had ever really thought about.
When I bought my 2012-2013my C4S circa 24 months ago, on line, I did not feel the need to employ an appraiser, as I was buying remotely from a large countrywide BMW dealership that has a local Porsche franchise local to me. Covid was still around thus the trip of a few hundred miles would have been further complicated, and as well as the recently introduced buying at distance regs would apply, along with BMW`s multipoint approved used car inspections and tick sheet accompanying the documents that included my own HPI check, that all discussions relative to the sale were by my request carried out via email for record purposes and also that at my request, that the salesman created a vid of the underside with the under-trays removed when they would be performing their pre sale checks.... I felt I had most things covered well enough...?
The car was guaranteed for 6 months by the dealership, though I informed them that I would be putting the car through Porsches 111 point check after three months, what I did not know at the time that my local OPC would have carried out a complimentary check to save me waiting the required three months.... The car arrived with three small issues that could have cost me circa £500 to resolve, but were covered by the supplying dealer in the case of out of date tyre goo, and by their Insurance based guarantee company for a non functioning alarm siren ( a common internal battery issue..) The other was related to a minor paint finish issue again resolved at my local OPC with no cost to me..
Best to check out the wording of guarantee paperwork VERY closely as even large national dealerships may use Insurance based systems that have considerable limitations when compared to our EXPECTATIONS or the sales talk we might care to swallow...?
Insurance and agreed valuation... I insured my C4s with an agreed value of £70k which was just a little under what it cost me to buy and have it accepted onto the Porsche extended warranty scheme at What it`s market value might be today with circa 47k miles on the clock, is anyone`s guess.. Not that I have put enough miles on it during my ownership for one reason or another... !
For sure the PCA can provide such videos and on a regular basis is more likely down to the amount they are funded by membership.. which is likely to be way in excess of that which PCGB will attract over a year...?
Though relative to this thread, it seems the PCGB can perform some sort of valuation, though how weight that might hold, I have no idea.. More than happy to read of any experiences.
Regardless of all the above... I hope you find something of interest in the vid...
