Hi all,

So this is my entire list of items which need doing before I can get an OPC warranty:

  • * Non Porsche battery - Fair enough
    * 3rd party installations possibly phone kit & audio items - Will remove Denison kit.
    * Brake fluid non-porsche standard - Fair enough
    * Tyre Sealant expired - Fair enough
    * Brake fluid change overdue - Fair enough
    * Front headlamp leveling link seized - DIY job? How much do you think it will cost?
    * O/S/F top mount bush starting to separate - DIY job? How much do you think it will cost?
    * Rear anti-roll bar bushes worn - DIY job? How much do you think it will cost?
    * Leak from coolant drain plug - Fair Enough
    * All ignition coil cracked - Fair enough, will get them to do it during compression test.
    * DME has been remapped
    * Ignitions in Rev Range 4 - Fair enough (20 ignitions in RR4), compression test booked

I will first put it through the compression test and see if they are willing to put a warranty on it first before I get on to the other items. Otherwise I will be sending my car to Hartech to get it sorted.

Does anyone know how long it takes for porsche HQ to approve the compression test results?

Any thoughts?

I'd say you are looking at around £2k + vat for everything from the headlight link down.

Compression tests usually come back within the day.

DME map is a concern. Did they confirm that this wouldn't affect the watranty if you put the standard map back on?

That's what I thought too, although with the compression tests, will get my coil packs and sparks changed at the same time. Are the compression tests an engine out job?

Does Porsche HQ respond to the compression test results the same day too? I thought it would be several days before you found out if they were willing to put a warranty on it or not.

Well, they said that they didn't know if putting on the standard map would make a difference. The PIWIS tester apparently reads out a tamper address which needs to read all zeros. Apparently mine isn't all zeros and that is the problem. I have asked the question here on this thread already.

Hi,

The compression test isn't an engine out job no.

You'll get the results from the tests same day, but yes, PCGB might need to check the results back to Germany for confirmation. Your local OPC will be able to advise on the likelihood of that based on the numbers seen.

You will be waiting a couple of days if it goes back to Germany absolutely.

Cheers.

How long ago did you buy the car (I'm assuming 3 months) and did you have a PPI check carried out?

Yes three months ago, had a PPI check by an Indy who picked out other issues, brake pads etc etc, which were all changed out by the previous owners.

To be honest, the rest of the items I am not too fussed, it is really the DME which really gets me. :pc:

Yes, I can understand why you feel that way, I have read your other post since I responded and it sounds like you have some other avenues to pursue and contacting the previous OPC is a good start. Shame they can't tell you when it was tampered with. Good luck

Thank you very much sir. Will keep this forum posted on this thread what I eventually go for. If the OPC takes too much of a piss, Hartech is my no. 1 choice. (Even if it is a 6hr drive)

Top mounts aren't DIY if you have to ask are they DIY.

Personally, I'd get all the suspension stuff done professionally, as it will need a geo anyway (and I am assuming by one and the same)

For the faff and minor additional, I'd let OPC do the leveller link too.

A sensible and wise approach to use Hartech as an alternative.

Personally I would try and persist with getting your car back on the OPC warranty. Your car isn't old and keeping it within the dealer warranty will be advantageous for any future purchaser should you wish to sell. It would also save a 6hr drive each time you want something repaired.

Car is booked in for a compression test. I have got them to change out the Sparks and the Coil packs at the same time as it saves quite abit on labour. Sparks are not included in the major service and the last time it had it was 2010, so even if I cant get the warranty, will be good to have it done.

Compression Test = £456
6x Coils = £345
6x Spark plugs = £130
Total = £930

Results take about a couple of days for porsche to make a decision whether warranty can be given out or not.

Hi all,

Updated Prices:

  • * Non Porsche battery = £261
    * 3rd party installations possibly phone kit & audio items - Will remove myself.
    * Brake fluid non-porsche standard - See brake fluid change
    * Tyre Sealant expired - not doing it
    * Brake fluid change overdue - £95
    * Front headlamp leveling link seized = £77
    * O/S/F top mount bush starting to separate = £477.87
    * Rear anti-roll bar bushes worn = £139
    * Leak from coolant drain plug = £79
    * All ignition coil cracked = See above.
    * DME has been remapped = £1600
    * Ignitions in Rev Range 4 - Fair enough (20 ignitions in RR4), compression test booked

Any thoughts?

DME = £1600
Other Repairs = £1129
Total = £2.7k

So in all, I would have spent £3.6k to get it to OPC warrantable standard, which is very painful. The warranty is about £1.4k for 1yr or £2.4k for 2yrs.

Kench - I'm not going to say it's cheap to own a Porsche 997 Turbo because it's not and getting into the 'is the OPC warranty worth it' debate isn't really the topic of conversation, the important thing is that if you commit to the repairs at least you'll have piece of mind knowing that your car is up OPC standard and you won't need to have the same problems when you sell the car.

We're not talking a cheap Ford Mondeo, we're talking about a high performance car with abundance of heritage. Based on your pictures it's one refined and stunning looking car.

The previous owner supplied OPC invoices to you which probably swayed your decision to buy the car. Having OPC provenance especially when it comes to selling will no doubt help you in the future.

Good Luck Pal.
