Hello,

I got mine 996T on the 16.01 so I am total newbie in the Porsche so here is my question....
When I push a little hard, I hear a sort of "boom" and the car goes like a rocket, what is that? is it the turbo?? is it normal?

Thanks.

Sound barrier

you are aabout to hit warp speed in the millenium falcon - make sure chewwy is strapped in otherwise he'll grunt. And use the force and may the force be with you.

That is the blistering performance of the Turbo - a stomach churning experience and totally addictive - always accompanied by a big wide grin.

Thanks guys for the reply, yeah I could not understand when I just push a little bit and after the boom, suddenly I was in Mexico (I live in Zurich) it is really the warp.

Nooo. ok, so this is normal? it is not really a boom, but it is like a stuffy sound, I have had turbo cars before but I never heard something like that.

cheers

I wouldn't be too worried then if it has been there since day one if it had only just stared making the noise I would be.

Winny

Yes I will not worry much.
I need to drive another one to see if the noise if there.

A turbocharger doesn't make a noise like that. At least no "boom" as you discribed.
Good idea to drive another one by comparison.

Actually the noise happen when I push the throttle, as the car is automatic, the gear changes from fifth ot fourth to third or second and then I rear like a punch underneath the car, sounds like to transmission is hitting the car underneath, any ideas?

If its related to fast acceleration as opposed to the turbo's kicking in then it could be a number of things.

Gearbox/engine mounts/suspension related/exhaust mounts?

Might be better to try and get the car up on a lifter and get a guy with strong arms trying to move/shake things and look for someting lose.
