First up, what a great day! Good weather, nice people (good to put faces to names!) and what a turn out! Hope you guys who stayed down for the weekend had a good one!

Anyway, I made it back in record time. Coming up to the St.Albans M25 turn off there was a bit of traffic. I was doing 70 in the middle lane over taking a couple of lorries with a car overtaking me. I caught sight of a car and caravan pulled over under the bridge on the bend. This is one of the areas on the motorway that doesn't have lights. It was then when I saw the reason why it had pulled over...one of the wheels off the caravan had shredded and was in the middle lane! Basically I was
f@cked
! Had nowhere to go so just braced and went straight over it. Pulled over to inspect the damage as it made one heck of a bang. Think I got off lightly, scratches down the sideskirt on passenger side, worst area just in front of the back wheel. Will give it a thourgh check in daylight. Called the police to advise of debrit on the carridge way. Had driven 280miles, was about 8 miles from home and that happens!

Typical!

DAMN! That sucks BIG TIME. I was driving along a while ago when a flippin' ladder fell of the back of a van at 70 MPH! The guy in the motor behind couldn't do anything to go over it! I defitintely learnt the value of keeping a sage distance from the car in front - but in your case - nothing you could have done. Glad you or nobody else was injured. Hope the car is OK (What car do you have?)

Nightmare! Do you have any redress for the damage from the owners of the confounded caravan? (which in my view should be discouraged at every opportunity!)

I've got an 04 C4S. If there are any problems with the car I'll speak to the police who went to the scene and get some details. When I called them I said that there was some minor damage to the car.

Do people not check thier caravans before they set off?? This was the second one I saw by the side of the road, the first one was laying on its side across two lanes of the motorway!

 :?
.. glad you and the car are ok.

It's a shame that people these days don't have any care or respect for fellow road users. I remember when we use to travel long distance, my father have the car a full once over to make sure there were no problems enroute. Nowadays we take cars for granted ....

I had to change my plans and divert back to London at the last minute after leaving Poole. There was a caravan upside down on the west bound side of the M3 as well at the Portsmouth end with a tail back for several miles.

I guess a lot of people don't adhere to POWER checks before they set off i.e

P - etrol O - il W - ater E - lectrics R - ubber

Yuk! Sorry to hear that, must have ruined the weekend! At least man and machine were ok. Hopefully just the body works that were damaged.

Tme to either ban caravan, or at least limit them to the slow lane!

Good to see you in Poole anyway.

Thanks guys.

Checked over the car and everything seems to be ok. The marks down the side seemed to be rubber so came off with a bit of a rub...guess thats why they call it rubber! :p
Lucky anyway!

Nice to meet all you folks...can't wait for the next meet. :D

Thanks for arranging everything sundeep, you're a
!

Its not often I shed a tear over a post, but having seen your PAJ in all its glory that sounded orrible. Glad its not serious, and most importantly it didnt cause a crash or the like. I hit a piece of timber with kerbstone dimensions stretched across the M2 one evening in VW scirocco. Smashed an alloy wheel to pieces and I narrowly avoided hitting the nearside armco in bringing it to a halt. As I was inspecting the damage, 3 other cars hit it one after the other. Police finally pitched up to remove it but could'nt give a sod about who left it there

hiya all I do around 50K a year and im never happier than when i see the remains of a caravan strewn over the road, 1 down and thousands to go they are worse than lorries overtaking each other on a dual carriageway or some old dodgy codger in the middle lane causing 80 mph woman to pull out on you when you doing 120. Sorry to hear to your bad luck but at least you still here to tell us.
