Oil temp and fans?

Oil temp is fine under normal running but once standing and the temp rises front fan will kick in but only intermittent say 5 seconds then off then back on repeatedly. Both fans (front and rear) work and turn freely. I'm presuming the resistor may be cracked and needs replacement... Anyone had this symptom before I dive in?

Sounds more like the relay or thermostat than the ballast resistor. Is the fan running in slow speed as well as high speed?

The resistor allows the fan to run at slow speed the 'emergency' setting is high speed only and normally a sign your resistor is knackered.

You can check both speeds by bridging the pins where the resistor plugs in. I can't recall which ones and not at home to check my notes but I'm sure someone will chip in.

If there is no sign the resistor has been replaced then I will be knackered. You may be able to get to it from the wheel arch if lucky :thumb:

Seems like intermittent high speed only to me and no history of ballast resistor being replaced so as you say it is time to change. Need to sort it before Silverstone event next weekend as don't need any issues sat on the track :hand:

Well had the resistor checked basically the wires were virtually adrift and resistor was broken in place. Few crappy phone shots but you get the idea. Also fitted a new temp sensor whilst in there and now all is well.
