oil pressure

Hi all

I have tried the search function but could not find what i was after.

I have a 997 C2 56 plate. When switching on the ignition only the oil pressure is reading approx 1.5. When starting it goes up to 5 as it should, but when its warmed up (90 degrees), the oil pressure does not appear to decrease..

I'm thinking it could be the pressure transmitter, is this a known fault with this model. Should it be reading 0 with ignition on only??

Thanks in advance
Simon

Search requires some understanding of argument syntax. I once did a talk on it. Even I fell asleep. :floor:

This was the last 997.1 oil pressure thread: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=89361

1.5 with ignition on seems low as mine goes to 5. 5 on initial startup is fine. It should be around 2 when warm but idling. 4 to 5 with higher revs, such as 3K plus.

Perhaps check your oil level?

If you are getting readings with the ign on but engine not running, then almost certainly the sender unit. Easy to change with a crows foot 3/8 attachment, which I have if you wish to borrow. In Cheshire.

OK, first of all check the connections on the top of the transmitter, they can cause the trouble if corroded or loose, clean them and apply WD40. If that doesn't work then get a new sender from your OPC about £48. They are a bit awkward to get at without a crows foot, with one, very easy. A common problem I think had it on my 996 and current 997.

Mine also reads 5 most of the time, sometimes floats down to middle but then goes back to 5.
Where is the sensor located please?

Top of engine right hand side as you face it fairly well back, cylindrical, couple of inches high two wires out of the top.

Thanks for that, I will look at the connections tomorrow. Tried switching ignition on without starting the engine and no movement on the meter at all.
