Likely culprit? had both rockers done so can't be those, oil return pipes cause smoke?

Anyways losing enough to make a mess of the drive, am I ok to drive short trips until it gets looked at next week?

Hello
That's where the main oil tank and filter lives. You haven't spilt some oil topping up have you? It could work it's way down there.
As Mark said could well a slightly loose or dodgy filter
Good luck.
Steve.

New filter on as of OPC service in September last.
I do spill often when topping up, last top up was last month.

Also I found that the dipstick was not in fully secure when inspected.

Dodgy filters are common
The filter on the oil tank is a changed on a major service
So if a cars had a couple of minors for low mileage
Then the filter can rust through

Mark you are absolutely right.
Even though it's in the service schedule, it seems such a false economy NOT to change at least the main filter with every oil change. :dont know:
If it turns out to be the filter that has given up, it only goes to prove it!

So the consensus is a oil tank filter, makes sense for where it is.

Will I need a oil change if I get this replaced?

Sounds like the best plan to me. If they did the service 3 months ago they are less likely to bill you for taking a look. (and hopefully fix)
Sounds like it could well be a dodgy or loose filter.
Good luck.
Steve.

My vote is for the oil filter

Agreed. Possibly over or under tightened.

I have also read that it is quite easy to leave the old gasket stuck to the housing meaning that two gaskets would then be in place - not good for the quality of the seal.

If the gasket wasn't smeared with oil when the filter was installed, this can also affect the integrity of the seal.

Hi

There is also the rubber pipe that comes out of the bottom of the oil tank, so that is worth looking at, as well as the oil tank sump plug. All can leak.

Booked in with the OPC as they did the oil service recently, with agreement that any investigative work is non chargeable, as well as any remedial work if their work is at fault.

Can't say fairer than that.

Not all OPCs are the same, I have a good relationship with Porsche East London, good air cooled rates, especially servicing, car pick up and return, free inspection work etc etc.

Oil tank filter, £12.23
1 hr labour at discounted rate.

And they washed it.

job jobbed, thanks Mark for your sound advice ;)
