Im looking at a car from a potential seller but he will only take it to an OPC for an inspection - the same garage he bought it from

From what ive read their inspections arent as good as an indy but unfortunately its either that or nothing.

My question is what should I ask them to do? A standard 111 point check? Will they send me a DME report? Will they check for accident damange?

Why not ring the OPC in question and tell them what you want. It would concern me that any seller would not accommodate the potential buyers inspection request.

Its because the nearest indy is over a 2 hour drive away. the car does have OPC warranty till Sept next year.

In terms of the OPC should I be calling the garage part? In terms of items id need inspecting for a Gen 2 997 what would you suggest?

- paintwork for respray/damage
- full DME report

From what ive read the gen 2 cars are pretty bulletproof so would their be that much to know?

If you're paying, the OPC will report on anything that you want them to.

If it's already got an OPC warranty on it, anything they find should be attended to before you buy.

As it's a private sale the warranty will be transferred straight away so it sounds like - subject to you liking the car and the PPI report (and the price) - you're getting a great deal. :thumb:

At this moment in time it seems that a 997.2 or later is the Carrera model to go for to minimise engine paranoia.

Paintwork and trim condition (searching for crash damage, new paint and poor workmanship, established corrosion).
Underbody and suspension condition (with the wheels off the ground)
Wheels and tyres condition
Operation of brakes and brake disc/pad condition
The engine and transmission external condition (oil leaks, coolant and consumables condition, corrosion)
The interior and luggage compartment (wear and tear)
Operation of electrical equipment
ECU data (Over-revs, fault codes and operating hours)
Driving behaviour

Spoke to Porsche, they said they only offer a 111 point check. Which is a visual inspection only. It does include over rev report but didnt sound that extensive.

Transferable warranty until next September. What you worried about :thumb:

Might be worth checking for over-revs if its a manual - but if found I believe this may invalidate any subsequent warranty claim :dont know:

If you're paying they should do what you want - otherwise its a shite outfit and wouldn't get my business

Someone will I am sure advise

Tonbridge OPC wont do a 111 point check unless it's specifically for taking out a warranty.

You have to have 'an annual inspection' and specify what else you want looking at if it's not covered by that .

My advice - if this is the car and the price that you want - would be to agree purchase subject to the 111 report coming back on negative over revs. Buy it - take it to your indy and have them crawl all over it, take it back to OPC for any remedial work required which is covered by their warranty.

This sounds like it may be the most practical solution. In terms of over-revs would I walk away if their was anything in 4 or 5 range?

Is their a way to check for accident damage also?

You should be pretty much guaranteed that there weren't any prior to warranty renewal - so yes IMO as these would have occurred recently (also worth agreeing with the seller and OPC that you can reconfirm no over revs on transfer date in case anything nasty has happened between the inspection and collection) - or buy a hooky Durametric cable off ebay circa £30 and check it yourself.
If there are any old ones (lets say the engine operating hours are 600 hours and the last recorded over revs occurred at 200 hours) then you should be ok to renew the warranty as the OPC would have insisted on a bore scope before allowing the warranty renewal - but check with OPC at the time of inspection.
Another option of course - will your Indy travel and hire a ramp at halfords etc?
I think you have very little to worry about as you have a warranty to fall back on. Drive it and if you like it buy it

Thanks, Ive spoke to the OPC garage who serviced it in April this year they confirmed it has had 221 ignitions in rev range 1 and zero in 2,3,4,5,6 - is that ok?

I guess the only other question is about accident damage - OPC have said it has never had any work done with them. Unfortunately having spoke to some indys none are prepared to travel..
