Hi, the expansion tank on my 997.2 could do with replacing, I just wondered if anyone had any experience of the OE match part on 911design? It's roughly half the price of the OE part.

Many thanks

I had one a few years back and it leaked after 6 months from a hairline fracture in the seam running along the middle. For certain parts like these supposed O.E match, they do not say which company manufactured them.

I recently learnt the hard way, when I got the O.E match window regulator. There was no manufacturer label on the box or the part and it was a poor fitment. I then fitted the genuine Porsche item and it was perfect.

If you want to have a go at refurbing your old exansion tank to make it look like new, I found this the other day extremely helpful:

Unfortunatly Mahle have moved all production to china and the quality has suffered
They have been there for a while, as have Bosch, Beru etc. What makes you say quality has suffered? Mahle claim quality control is now better than ever - but then they would say that....

I think this is just inevitable for big companies to move their production to China. The labour costs are just too cheap to pass up. Apple has been doing so for a very long time now and the phones are produced to as a high quality as the early non Chinese produced goods.

Mostly the companies that value profits over integrity, which is most of them unfortunately. The only thing they value is sales, so unless that is threatened they will go cheap every time.

I’ve bought bits for various BMWs over the past few years, horrendous quality plastics on intercooler end tanks and metal flanges built in to rubber hoses that are sharp and unfinished. The diffence between some of their parts and OE is startling
