Noisy brakes?

This could be normal for big discs and what I expect are relatively hard pads compared to a less sporting car, but when I'm pottering along without the sound system playing, I've always thought that the brakes make quite bit of noise, its not squealing or anything dramatic, its a normal friction sound, but seems rather loud to me. I've only had the car for the past 3K miles or so and its only about 7K since it's last MOT/Service and from what I can see the discs look in reasonable condition but I don't really know what Im looking for to judge whether they are past it :?:

Does it ease off after a few applications I.e is it the standard rust that accumulates overnight that needs rubbing off?

I get this. I would imagine it disappears after a thrashing. Go and thrash it.

Shouldnt be making any noise !
(except yes maybe for 5 seconds if surface rust has happened overnight )

Id suggest the common one ive had in the past is the thin heat shield can warp slightly and touch the disc , and thats just a case of inspection via jacking each wheel up and spinning it by hand whilst looking and listening ,
if it is that just see where its touching and push it away via hand .

otherwise it could be the pads arnt releasing properly and just needs a basic strip and copper grease of the caliper pistons and sliders , easy diy or cheap job for Any garage

:)

also check youve not a stone stuck in a disc hole

I would observe that drilled discs add a little 'scrubbing' noise at lowish speeds, and equally can make a noticeable 'whine' from very high speed very hard.

In between it's usually hard to hear anything distinctive.

They ARE noisy, as mentioned, if rusty from overnight in rain, or after a car wash and again left. Once agin, it's a 'scrubbing' noise that soon reduces.
