Hi all

I am after some advice and information please:

I am currently a owner of a few Classic Ford's and now looking into the 996 GT2, I am not totally clued up on the cars tbh.

Can someone tell me if the GT2 996 was only made as a Turbo as I have seen a GT2 on pistonheads for sale but its showing as naturally aspirated?

All 996 GT2s were turbocharged.

....certainly looks to be a GT2 from the pictures shown.

HWM run forest run :o

some 996tt have been made to look like gt2's.......some checks below.

VIN's with this digit/location are genuine GT2 's: xxxxxxxxxxxx9xxxx
VIN's with this digit/location are 996TT's/fakes: xxxxxxxxxxxx8xxxx

Also:

PSM button on dash?(then it is a fake GT2)
Sunroof/(fake....GT2's don't have them)
Non adjustable shocks? (FAKE)
4 x Piston Front Calipers(FAKE)
No PCCB(its a fake GT2) although some owners have PCCBs in a box and run steels
Rear Seats(FAKE)
Manual tranny code/stamp on a GT2 box is G96.88 vs turbo G96.50. GT2 tranny has additional cooling features and ratio's.
Front rad vent assembly(different on both cars...GT2's is angled)
Factory underseal?( genuine GT2 has none)
4wd still connected(clearly not a GT2!)

Fakes don't usually have the uber expensive GT2 motorsports rear lid and wing, being part no's 996 512 221 30 & 996 512 261 30 respectively.

Thanks for the info people.

Always good to hear the knowledge of people knowing what they are talking about.

Does anyone know of a genuine GT2 for sale, budget up to 70k

The car you link to looks to be genuine, in fact, as a Turbo rebuilt as a GT2 also wouldn't have a normally aspirated engine.
The fact that the dealer can't get the car's spec right in his blurb isn't very confidence-inspiring though.

The car looks to be genuine but not sure the same can be said for the dealer.

There are very few 'straight' 996 GT2 out there so tread with caution when buying
