Folks,
Been lurking around and gleaning loads of very helpful info from the various 911uk forums for some time (previous 3.2, 993, and most recently 996 C4S owner) and thought it about time I introduced myself and maybe contributed something!
I recently sold the above mentioned C4S which was a superb car but one which I never really fell in love with for one reason or another. After 2 months of ownership (I know, didn't really give it a chance did I!) I happened to come across an opportunity to get hold of a very solid original Irish 964C2. The car belonged to a senior director in the company I work in and he literally used the car once or twice a week for the past 8 years to get himself into the office when he didn't fancy taking the train. He wouldn't be the most 'sympathetic' Porsche owner I have come across and knew very little about Porsches in general. That said, the car was serviced reasonably well during his ownership and never let him down.
Long story short, I bumped into him a few weeks back and asked him how the car was going. He explained he was looking to sell it and if I'd be interested. I told him yes, but that I would need to move on my recently acquired 996 to be able to do a deal on his. I asked him what he was looking to change to and he said he wasn't sure...just wanted something newer. You can see where this is going I guess... Anyway I gave him mine for the evening and I took his to give it a proper check over. A deal was done the next day and I'm now the very proud owner of a 964 C2 manual.
Here's the run down -
Good bits -
The right model/spec - 1991 C2 manual, black/black leather
Solid rust free - spent it's entire life in Ireland (salt free roads!)
Very original/unabused (other than 17" turbo rep wheels :nooo: )
Very strong pulling & quiet engine
Full documented service history with only 3 owners from new
Nice reg plate! (see below)
Bad bits -
Needs a new clutch
109k miles (not particularly high, I know, but getting into rebuild territory in the next few years I suppose!)
A few oil leaks
Needs new wheels and tyres (locking wheel nuts fubarred on both rear wheels :frustrated: )
Could do with a full respray - no rot...just the usual blemishes/marks associated with original 20 year old black paint!
Needs a suspension refresh
Oil level gauge not working
And a loads of other minor bits and pieces that I can't think of right now!
I basically picked the the car up last week and drove it (with very slippy clutch) straight to a reputable Porsche specialist here in Dublin for him to get to work on it asap (will be my daily driver so need it back on the road sooner rather than later)
The immediate work I am having done is as follows -
- Clutch kit and slave cylinder
- Full service (oil/filter, air filter, fuel filter, plugs, valve clearances)
- New Distributers , rotors, and leads, new dist vent kit
- New Engine bay sound insulation
- New Fronts disks and front and rear pads
- RS Engine mounts
- Front and rear crank oil seals
- Timing chain cover gaskets and bolt seals
- Engine lid shocks
- G Pipe and new tip
- Drill out broken wheel lock nuts!
I have also ordered up a full set of Billy B6s with H&R springs, new top mounts and poly bushes for the front a-arms from Gert in Carnewl, however, these won't be going on for a few weeks.
Picked up a set of clean Cup 11s with brand new Michelin PS tyres from ebay at a very good price (would have loved Cup 1s but felt the money would be much better spent on the suspension parts!)
Finally, a black spoked Momo Prototipo/boss and a few other little trim bits ordered.
It all certainly adds up :wtf: (Matt over at Type911 is my new best mate! But I wanted to get as much of what I feel is the important stuff done straight away so I can start enjoying the car.
Plan is also for a full respray in the near future when funds permit!
Here are a few (very bad quality...sorry!) pics from our underground office car park (worts and all) the day I took ownership... Some better ones to follow as soon as I get it back and am able to run the DA polisher over it and stick the new wheels on etc...promise!
Can't wait to get it back on the road (hopefully this week!)
