Hi all,

Anyone read any reports on the new Road Angel? Looks nice, and sitting on 6 points, I need to get something in case through a momentary lapse of concentration I drift above the limit and don't spot a revenue collector...

Was heading out of Edinburgh last weekend, Sunday afternoon, and I'm sure I spotted what looked like laser speed detectors on a bridge over the motorway. I was doing just under 80 on the speedo, and slowed when I saw them, and haven't heard anything yet, but I'd be surprised if they're prosecuting people in the 70-80 range on motorways - everyone would get caught!

I'm still concerned about picking up hand held radar units though - they're still quite common up here.

Just had "an exclusive offer for business users" in the post, namely £20 off the new Road Angel direct from Roadnet, making it £379.99 to you squire.

Anyone know of any better offers anywhere else, 'cos I is tempted!

Bought one of the road angel 2 units about 6 weeks ago as had a near miss with a mobile unit. I think its a good setup and its not missed a fixed camera/specs/blackspot so far. Not sure how good the extra laser detector is as yet to be targeted but have picked up scatter from ahead before and slowed down but not seen the mobile unit but then it could be coming from other directions i suppose. Fifth gear rated the angel unit and its fairly uncluttered and easily installed. Look on ebay as i picked mine up for £310 and there are loads available at about that price. No false alarms either and the volumes adjustable which means no constant beeping like some older units used to.

Cheers

Giles.

I have the original Road Angel and have found it very reliable. Other than styling and a mute facility I would suggest that you would be better off getting one of the original units which will be discounted now.

Agree with Poon - Origin b2. Great system, easy to setup etc.

One question Poon, Toby etc. Has your laser detector ever gone off? Mine has yet to, and never sure if I am just (un) lucky or it doesn't work?

I havent had a laser alert yet in the field so to speak but it does work - you can test it by sending it a vcard via infra red from a mobile phone!

Flip! Buggery! How the hell did you twig that one. I know that in one of the other cars (an old Rover) the horn set it off every time. Scared the blinking cr*p out of me the first time - was going round a roundabout, some muppet in front was dilly dallying and not sure what to do so gave a blast of the horn. Seconds later, the thing goes ape, and I'm cra**ing myself that my blast on the horn has alerted some hidden copper who tagged me. I have never driven home so slowly in my life.

When it happened a few more times the penny dropped. Origin sent me, for free, a ferrite collar to prevent this happening.

Will all of the above mentioned work with Truvelo Cameras? I thought they worked via road sensors, and were therefore pretty much unbeatable.

Hi Simon

Certainy the b2 works with Truvelo - and any other that is GPS based will as well - they are not unbeatable because ultimately, while it does need road sensors, it has to have a unit that takes the photo of the registration plate. That''s the unit that is known. There are some places, such as the road to Stranraer in Scotland that is fast and furious, but does not appear to have any camera's but I think used to so the b2 goes off. Anyhow, it picks up pretty much everything.

Worse thing will be if the government decide these devices are illegal, which is being discussed. I shall then be sending an invoice to the Prime Minister as he can lfippin' well pay for the unit...

Hi All,

The b2 looks pretty good, and the new b2 solo looks like it's easier to fit, and transfer from car to car if needed.

It says it has an optional radar detector, but I can't see how to buy it from the website. Anyone got one of these?

Finally got hold of a New Road Angel. It's been registered and updated, but seems to be very slow to pick up satellite signals, whichever car it is in. On a 100 mile trip home last night, I could not get it to work despite re-booting several times.

Anyone else experienced this or have a solution?
