New build 996 RS recreation Project

He did mention that he was considering selling the Speedster because he doesn't get chance to use it much, whoever buys that (if he ever does sell it) is going to get a very sorted car. I'd have ripped his arm off if I hadn't already dumped a load of cash into the 930 and this build.

A bit more video from the start of the teardown.
I'm heading down there tomorrow and looking forward to seeing it in person.

that is a good looking car

wonder if that is the Oslo Blue GT2 that was at the Fairmile a few years ago that caused such a stir

Yeah it will be, it's a superb machine and he was making a mockery of the GT3 brigade at Anglesey track day last year. And like me he's put amber side side indicators on it which look perfect against the blue. It's a solid colour , not metallic and the interior done to match , it's a very special car.

...what's the arctic silver 996 behind yours..... C4S I'm guessing at the price..?

I checked and yes, it's a silver 996 manual Targa, it's got 50k miles on it and it's in exceptional condition, I had a quick look around it and it's a really nice car, to be honest it might not be something I'd usually get excited about, but in the flesh it's absolutely lovely and it's like new inside. Reece said it's been well looked after and I think they've just finished some recent preventive maintenance, so it should be good for a while.
I don't think it's advertised anywhere, but the bloke wants to sell it and they'd stuck a price sign in the window whilst it's there.

I got to have a proper look at the project today, it's exceptionally good condition for a twenty year old car, the paint is stunning in the light, that blue really pops out at you.
I feel like I'm throwing superlatives around like they're going out of fashion, but it's hard not to get carried away.

The GT3 RS wheels are being refinished in black with polished rims.
It has some super lightweight wheels on for now :D

Whilst I was there I had a few decisions to make, like do I put the extra radiator in? It seems a no brainer to do it, especially since it's very likely to find itself out in the UAE on the track at 40c.

The fuel tank, the donor car is a C4S, so the fuel tank is different and I've opted to have a bigger one now it's being converted and I have the extra space to fill.

And another thing was the suspension, the wheel carriers were a surprise, Marc had laid out the choices I had on the bench so I could pick them up and actually feel the differences, the RS ones were ridiculously light compared to the C2 or GT3 ones, they're expensive and arguably not necessary but from what I've read they're a very good upgrade if you have the budget. Once I'd actually held them in my hands and felt the differences it again felt like a no brainer, so I'm going with those. From what I read it changes the steering feel from 'great' to 'telepathic', so it's a more expensive option but hopefully I'll feel the benefit.

It seems like regardless of car colour, everyone goes with red seatbelts, the guys in the shop said the same, even with their green car they went with red seatbelts, apparently to match the calipers. But my wife put her foot down and wants blue seatbelts and I'm not bothered enough to argue against it, in fact it will probably look less busy inside, the red might be too much with the blue cage and blue accents on the dash.

We haven't had much discussion about the engine, other than we're using a well tried and tested formula of upgrade to 3.9L with lightweight rods and pistons. I might do a bit of research into cam profiles, new heads, etc, but it's not being built for power, it's being built for torque, low inertia, drivability, etc.
I'm not really sure it needs a lot of thought at this stage, it's more about the package than the engine, the standard engine would probably be fine, and the upgrades will just add to what should be a great overall package.

Will MLR be doing the engine work in-house H...?

Yes mate, they do send some specialist engineering stuff out to a local engineering shop but most of the work is done by them, e.g. the 964 cam work that needs to be done to fit them to the 930 was sent out to a specialist place because the equipment needed is expensive and they probably get asked once or twice a year to do it, so it makes more sense to send out specialist work, everything else was done in house on the 930, it's great to see cars moving from their engineering side of the building around the corner to the bodyshop.

So are the GT3 RS wheels the red or blue ones from a real GT3 RS? and you're going to re paint them like Fuchs? (polished rims) Sounds fantastic, the whole thing , keep the photos coming.
I think your wife is right about the red seat belts. That GT2 above has a gorgeous interior with blue highlights, I'll try and get a pic of it.
Good luck.
