My Cayman wouldn't start today.

I've had the car for a month now and I'm enjoying every minute but one thing has always annoyed me and that was the starting procedure. Having to depress the clutch fully before it would start was a PITA. I realise now that the micro-switch was probably starting to play up as sometimes I would have to depress the clutch a few times to get the engine to start.

Yesterday I had trouble getting it to start at all but it fired up eventually and I went out for a drive. Luckily I didn't stop and I put it away in the garage.

After a bit of research I found that this is a common issue and can leave you stranded. How lucky was I that it finally stopped working altogether today and the car was in the garage!.

I located the switch which was behind the floor well air vent and removed the two wires...

I then made up a shorting link and connected it to the two female spade connectors...

I now have a "normal" car, it starts on the key like every other car I've owned.

I'm assuming that a few people have done this before, are there any consequences? Will it invalidate my warranty? Does the ECU expect the switch to go open circuit when the clutch is out? There is another switch on the clutch pedal which operates when the pedal is fully up.
