My 2005 Porsche 911 C4S

Got my C4S back from Nine Excellence today after having the following work done.

1. Replacement over the gearbox brake line done and brake lines to rear calipers. As mentioned the over the gearbox line had been done (but badly) so replaced with new genuine parts.

2. Whilst the gearbox was out I had the IMS checked to make sure it had been done as per the service history, which came back as correct and it has an LN Engineering version fitted.

3. With the gearbox out it was noted the RMS (whilst it had been done when the IMS was done about 18 months ago) had a weep so maybe pressed in badly. As such I got a new RMS fitted.

4. With all the above done it was noted a prop shaft flange was worn so had this replaced with a new part.

5. Finally I had the AOS done as there was no history of it being done. I dont know if related but the car had idled about 900rpm and would stick occasionally at 1k rpm. With the above work done the idle has dropped to about 800rpm.

I will have to ask Nine Excellence if they reset the idle or if a wearing AOS could cause the symptom I mention above with idle.

More work done again at Nine Excellence.

When I bought the car it came with a stack of history but no mention of the water pump being done.

The previous owner had replaced the thermostat with a low-temp version and a new auxilery belt at AMS Porsche about 6000 miles ago but did not do the water pump.

As such I had Nine Excellence fit a genuine Porsche water pump and for peace of mind a new low temp thermostat and auxillery belt.

On the short drive home I felt the car did not get a hot on the temperature gauge as stuck around the middle when previously it had gone slightly over when warm.

After work MOT and my 996 has a fresh MOT. It was good to get the feedback from the tester as he commented it was clean and noted some of the work done in the last 8 to 9 months.

Further work done on my 996.

At the MOT the tester had walked me round the car as he finished the MOT. The one thing he picked up on was the brake hoses whilst not being an issue, original and old. He said if it was his car he would replace.

As such today at Nine Excellence I had new Goodridge braided brake hoses fitted and new front drop links.

Earlier in the month I had also visted Design 911 and purchased new front floor mats and the Porsche alloy type fuel cap.

During the month my Mini Cooper S has been out of the lock-up, my silver mx5 turbo had the brake master cylinder refurbished due to a leak whilst my MR2 Turbo has been deep cleaned following the winter in storage.

All quiet with the Porsche till the end of June. I'd been concentrating on my Mazdas where the black Pitcrew was reverted to standard and had the ITBs removed, new cam belt, water pump, etc. My silver roadster also had work as a new uprated fuel pump.

On the Porsche at the end of the month I fitted new wheels to me. They are Gemballa Speedline Corse. Specs are 18x11.5 ET33 and 18x9 et40.

Next on the list will be some new suspension and H&R 25mm lowering springs.

I like to have some different wheels and the Gemballa brand has a history with Porsche, which is cool. Whilst I've changed wheels I will store the standard C4S wheels as from an originality viewpoint it's nice to have.

My 996 was out today. It is booked in soon for new suspensions, springs and fresh geometry/alignment.

Got my 996 back from Nine Excellence. It had gone in this week and had new Bilstein B4 suspension, H&R lowering springs, new front top mounts, new bump stops. Along the way it also had new rear anti-roll bar links, rear brake disc covers.

I went with the Bilstein B4 on the recommendation of Nine Excellence as wanted to lower the car a little but not make it more bumpy. I've a few 90s Japanese cars which would be good and fast on track so this car is more of just a weekend bit of fun that will cope with some of the Sussex country a-roads. I'm happy with the results. It feels similar ride quality to before so the box has been ticked positively.

Aside in the last 7 or 8 months I have also replaced all upper and lower control arms, brake lines, front drop links, flexi-brake lines at Nine Excellence.

With geometry done it feels so precise, great feel and compliant. Driving it back today makes you wonder if this is how it felt from the factory.

When you buy a 996 (or 986 as I had previously) not enough is made of suspension refresh on the buyers guides imo. Given the age if it has been done it's a big tick box as none of the above has been cheap to do!

Thanks. Since I got the 996 I had been looking at wheels. Tryiing to find some I liked, fitted budget and fitted a WB 996 dragged the search on. I went for these as saw a similar set on a 996 Turbo in the USA and liked them. The Gemballa and Speedline links to Porsche also played a part.

These were a bit of a punt as slightly wider then stock 996 WB wheels and lower offset but seem to fill the arches nicely without any problems. The previous owner had them in storage for years as they had been his Dad's who had sadly passed away. By all accounts he was a Porsche man and had bought these but never got round to fitting.

I will keep the stock C4S wheels for originality purposes and like them also.
