Sick and tired for years losing serious money on BMW Mercedes etc and thought Porsche would be different...especially the much coveted C4S. Don't you believe it. With options paid just over £70k in Septemer, 1500 miles on the clock, now it has to go and the best I can get is £66K.

With all the stories about selling on I had expected better than this. The current excuse is the impending war, last week it was the poor stock market - there will always be an excuse but to me it seems the truth is that this car will not hold its value much better than any other.

Anyone want a nice C4S?

I'm sorry the car has to go but that sounds like a very good offer to me. £4000 for 6 months of Porsche motoring? Have you thought how much you would have lost on virtually any other car apart from a Ferrari maybe? You didn't really buy a new car expecting to make a profit?

4k on a 70K car sounds like its held its value very well. Especially when you consider you could loose similar money on a 12k Focus as soon as you pull out of the dealership.

Costa.....who's offering 66K ? Porsche dealer? A trader ? or a private punter ?

If a private punter - how & where did you advertise ?

Yours is a pucker UK supplied car, yes ? Colour scheme ?

Your current experiences are of no little interest to me - as I also moved away from the Merc/BMW platform in the belief that rock solid residuals were to be enjoyed @ disposal.

My best mate is trading his september 02 carrera 2 in next week with 4k on the clock and is losing £4k, Im not sure why your 4s is losing so much as there are loads of used 4S' being sold for a premium over list still. Porsche/Merc/Bmw will only help damage limitation when it comes to trade in time, and the real reason to buy these cars is that they will last a lot longer than the rest with hopefully fewer problems, and give greater pleasure whilst owning them.

Thanks everyone.

Nick, I did not buy it to make a profit, my point was that I am fed up of reading/hearing about the C4S premium when it just is not true (at least in my experience.

Jay Jay, The best offer £66k was from a trader, Porsche offered £65250. I did not advertise privately - think it is worth it? It is a UK car on Polar Silver (special colour) with Metrolpole Blue interior.

Johnny, thanks for the offer, the others were cash on the day as well.

if a trader has offered 66k - then he's probably got a margin of 2-3k.

if you can cope with the hassle , why not get the margin yourself ?

try 2 things....sunday times & top marques. £200 max advert exposure & a probable sale @ 68,500 if priced @68,950.

if speed is your aim - take the 66k - but i'd be keen to see how you get on with option 2 - if you feel like taking a few phone calls from "the general public"!

personally - i like the idea of another £2000 & a little hassle.

GOOD LUCK EITHER WAY!

Alternatively, advertise it @ 911uk for £25 (all of which goes to charity) and it'll be seen by at least 500 people a day...

A chap on the Pistonheads forum commented that he had tried Top Marques, zero response, just a few days on this site and it was sold.

Polar silver with metropole blue (possibly the best porsche exterior colour) you really shouldn't be losing money unless you spec'd lots of cosmetic items. Have you rung all opc's? More's the point, why sell such a great car?

Yeah, why would you sell a car that you have waited a long time for and not even run in yet? Porsches are for enjoyment mainly, not investment, unless you but some really rare model.

Costa....

Using the "there's always someone less fortunate" as a mode of providing some comfort.

1 year ago, I bought a 3 year old Range Rover Vogue 4.6HSE from Testers, (main dealer in Kent). I paid 27k, fully loaded, sat nav/all goodies etc. 53k miles

During first year, It has been back twice for replacing cam shaft, engine leaks, blown interior lighting and various sundries, which were all covered under the warranty. 2 seperate doorllocks failing, 1 of which involved replacing the entire central locking system were not covered under the warranty (imagine my surprise) and so cost me. I've waited 2 months for an admin issue between Testers and the warranty company to be resolved so I can have other niggles sorted. Having only done an additional 3.5k, I had a 'toys out the pram' moment and asked them for a price to buy it back, as I was unhappy with the car. They would'nt quote me a price as "It is not our policy to buy cars with more than 50k miles" This came from the same salesman who sold me the car 1 year before with 53k miles on the clock. -Pillock!-

The reason he didnt quote was a reluctance to show the real margins. Trade in, it's now worth £16k. A not amusing 40% or 11 grand depreciation on the first year on a second hand car. I was also quoted 'Gulf War/Oil prices/4.6 litre engine etc etc etc as the cause of this. There's no point in lobbing it out now, so I'm stuck. The car, I actually like (even with the thirst), but I have a 'friday afternoon production' absolute dog thats jinxed. Still, I can renew the warranty ("No sir, its not as comprehensive as your current policy, but we do recommend it!") for a mere £983.54. - All the toys went out again at that point!!

I can think of less frustrating ways of spending 11 grand, still, lesson learned.

Thanks again to all and for the comfort from Mark!!

As I said before - I did not buy it as an investment, when I ordered my circumstances were different. Now the car is hardly used hence the very low miles. Shame to leave it in the garage - it is not what they are made for! Might as well have the money in the bank.

Tried about half a dozen Porsche centres - margin between them over £3000!!!!
