Might sound a like daft question but does the plug connection have some kind of retainer that needs lifting ?

I want to remove & clean the sensor but the plug is reluctant to move and I don't want to damage it by using too much force

Yes.

Cunningly on the back :bandit:

If you can't get to it, just unbolt the two retaining Torx bolts and retract the whole MAF from the airbox pipe.

Then you can either wash in situ, or turn MAF on its cable and unpick the locking clasp.

See 996 FAQs for more info (if you haven't already)

Many thanks GT4,

Will give it a go in the morning.

Did read some postings on the cleaning of the sensor, didn't think to look at the 996 section as I thought the 3.8 dfi engine may have a different set up
