Got round to swapping out the low temp thermostat yesterday. It went without a hitch, I followed GT4's excellent write up and it took less than an hour, including a few cups of tea and some filtering.
The only problem I had was that I had 997 style external torx on the thermostat housing which I was totally not prepared for. My engine was replaced in 2009 by Porsche so I assume that is the reason for the differences on my engine.
I dumped about 6 litres of coolant through the plug and the rest came out of the thermostat housing. I had my car up to about 25 degrees, I did the job on my very steep drive with the car chocked and the brakes locked on with a soft rubber tube locked off against the drivers seat. With the car on the ramps it was pretty high
After the fit, it took a quick warmup on the stands to refill all but two litres of coolant, after a quick drive in went the rest...easy.
I have noticed a significant drop in the running temp, now often below the 80 mark, before it was around the 85-90 mark :thumb:
