low temp thermostat replaced.

Got round to swapping out the low temp thermostat yesterday. It went without a hitch, I followed GT4's excellent write up and it took less than an hour, including a few cups of tea and some filtering.

The only problem I had was that I had 997 style external torx on the thermostat housing which I was totally not prepared for. My engine was replaced in 2009 by Porsche so I assume that is the reason for the differences on my engine.

I dumped about 6 litres of coolant through the plug and the rest came out of the thermostat housing. I had my car up to about 25 degrees, I did the job on my very steep drive with the car chocked and the brakes locked on with a soft rubber tube locked off against the drivers seat. With the car on the ramps it was pretty high :D

After the fit, it took a quick warmup on the stands to refill all but two litres of coolant, after a quick drive in went the rest...easy.

I have noticed a significant drop in the running temp, now often below the 80 mark, before it was around the 85-90 mark :thumb:

Guess it makes sense they used the latest fixings on such a new engine.

For future reference for anyone, the name is an E10 Female Torx socket and looks like this:

Yep, much easier to buy that part in advance than spend a half hour with an oversize socket, blue tack, play sand and a braising rod :D

Oh, well...anyone with a recent engine may want to check in advance

Doing mine tonight after work, followed by an oil change and new plugs whilst it's up in the air and I'm under it.

Oil change and filter change coming up for me as well, along with grill mesh this weekend.

Can highly recommend a third radiator kit...

Bennets motor factors, just search for it on google and search Porsche on their site.

About £60 postage included IIRC

My Indie did mine in half an hour and charged £30, great result. I can understand the satisfaction you must get going the DIY route but at that price I couldn't be arsed (I know lazy). Also it gave me a chance to have a good look under the car...

:thumb: to GT4 great write up...

Thanks Guys I will be getting one very soon... Had fun just swapping out the rear wall! All went ok though! :)

Bought one

Just ordered one from one suggested above £48 and I got free delivery as their eBay deal says although I called and did my card over the phone so all good! Nice chap very knowledgeable..
