Hi all,

Been doing alot of research and looking around for my new car and ive narrowed it down to a 996.1 aero kit or .2 if the right one pops up. Or a BMW 645.

The two major downsides to the 645 are the 18mpg and variable electronic everything so will make it hard to repiar myself (im a dab hand with a spanner you could say).

So the 911 looks much "easier" to work on, so on average round town / blip on the motorway would I see post 20mpg? cant belive its down to this but just need to consider everything now. mpg isnt a major concern, but its a consideration obviously.

Many thanks,

Andy

Despite not being important to many owners the mpg of 911's is often discussed on here.

iirc the consensus is similar to what I used to achieve in my 2002 C4.

ie. 20-22 around town, 22-24 mixed stuff, 26-28 on a decent run, 30+ on motorways at constant but not necessarily UK legal speeds.

Sub 20 is normally only achieved on a track or autobahn.

ps. I think you'd be doing well to get 18mpg from a 645 on anything other than a run. I drove one on a test drive in the same way as I'd get 20 in my 996C4 and saw 9 mpg on the computer!

Thanks for that. Very imformative indeed! Think this just maybe the clincher, I have been looking at a 645 as I have a little boy and one more on the way. But we have the diesel family car and they will fit in the back of the 911.

Given those figures on fuel I didn't realise the Porsche could have such a good return. Also interesting that I'm not the only one to split hairs between the 996 and 645 😄

Thank you,

Andy
