Live chat room

Sorry if this has been covered before.

I have noticed that many people seem to spend time waiting for comments to their posts. Is it possible to set up a live forum where members can log in and chat "real time"

This was tried a few years back without too much sucess, though there was a lot less traffic then.

The good thing about forums and posts is that it's all stored there for reference and for everyone to see.

Here's an idea Phil - how about making the last entry at the top instead of the bottom of each thread - sometimes I click on a heading, go down 3 pages, and find that I have already seen the last entry -

I think it would be really odd to view the threads in reverse - anyone know of any other forums that work in this way so we can see what its like?

Are we talking about posts within a thread or the posts within a category?

It would be difficult to read a thread if the latest post was at the top surely?

not the forum layout as such but the view latest posts toolbar on the left hand side when you click on one it puts you to tthe last posting on the respective thread

or just turn your pc monitor upside down...

but the point being made is that other forums have the facility to see what posts have been updated since your last visit shown directly in each forum, as well as an show all active posts button i.e. a user may wish to only check a certain forum not the whole thing..
