Hi
Today I started work on preparation of a new stereo.
I am still not sure what to fit.

I have removed the original Nokia phone craddle and moved the air con unit to the bottom where the cubby hole was.
I need the surround for it now,the original does not fit,I have seen it somewhere on the internet, but can't find it anymore.

The original tape holder will be replaced with a cd holder or cup holder.

The housing at the top wont fit a double din without cutting the middle part out, making 2 single din into 1 double din.
Has anybody done this or should I get a new double din housing and fit that?

I need the part numbersfor the air con surround when fitted at the bottom and the part number for the housing /holder for the stereo/switches at the top.

Here is a link to some photos I took today:

Thanks

Mr T,
Yes you have to gently hacksaw that plastic bar out. Use the two holes left in the plastic at the top to bolt some 'L' angled Ali bar in (from B&Q). This gives you something for the stereo cage to fit to at the top as the hole will be too big. This gives a very rigid install. Plastic parts from OPC and are very cheap. You can get the aircon surround and a nice little cubby hole. Then get the double din surround from any decent stereo shop to fit. They cost £39 English.
Should look very OE if you take a little time.....

I've done exactly that, cut the supports out from the 2x single to make a hole big enough for a double din cage. Take it out of the car though, it's much easier/safer to play with on the bench.

For the surround, don't bother with eBay or the internet as some jokers try and sell it for £10-£15; it's only£3.57 +VAT from OPC. Part number 996.552.339.00

As for a unit to consider, I am putting a Kenwood in mine:
http://www.salectronics.com/shopexd.asp?id=1654

These are refurbished, hacked for Euro freq and DVD regions, but do not do RDS (which I can live with)

I really like the Garmin maps and you can put an SD card in for any country, get updates every yr, etc. These can be real or copies

Excuse my ignorance but are the cabes for the aircon control unit long enough to stretch that far or have you fitted extended cables ?

Pip

:dont know:

Pip,
Plenty of length on them. A bit of a fiddle to feed it all down though.

I got my double din stereo today, the cage when fitted with the plastic surround is to small in height.
Are there different plastic surrounds,it is about 15mm to small.

The lower position is OEM too (when PCM fitted), so the loom is universal.

OPC muppets

I wrote to OPC asking about the plastic surround/fascia for the double din stereo, relocated air con control unit and cubby.
This was there reply.
Can anyone give me the part number for the double din surround and cubby to replace cassette storage?

Thanks

1. Porsche do not have a plastic surround for the air con display in that position.

2. As far as I am aware Porsche do not list a surround for a double DIN display.

3. Porsche lists a cubby box, but the description says instead of radio. So I am not sure if this will fit. This part is £29.38 incl VAT

:?

My air con display is in the same position as yours and it's got a plastic surround.

I haven't got part numbers but on the Porsche PET set of exploded diagrams where the cubby box is shown as item 14, the cassette box is item 12 and the CD box is item 13 there is a plastic surround shown as item 11. This might be the one you're looking for.

Porsche don't make the surrounds for aftermarket stereos, why would they? You need to source one from your local ICE shop or online. Search the internet for Porsche 996 Double Din facia you should find the kit.

I've just removed mine to check part numbers and took a pic to make sure.

PS, why ask OPC when there is more knowledge on here. :floor:

PHOTO REMOVED SO AS NOT TO CONFUSE.

Base junkies sell the surround for about £30

I spoke to Porsche in Germany today and they gave me these numbers and prices.
They are slightly different from the one you guys are giving.

9965522530101c Cubby (Ablagefach) € 28,48
9965523390001c Aircon surround (Blende) € 4,12

After searching Google,I found a site in the US where they seem to sell all of these parts and more.

5522530101C Upper
5522430101C Lower
9965523390001C Lower aircon surround.

Here is a link to the site for future reference:

Only thing now is the plastic frame for around the stereo.

Porsche don't make one and on ebay etc they come with all the cage and bits I don't need and are expensive saying I will only throw away the rest.
