Can anyone recommend a european source for lightweight batteries such as the Optima Red Top?

No takers?

If it helps, I have more or less decided on the (Hawker) Odyssey PC925. Anyone know a good source for these?

Hi Graham

Optima's are popular with the serious 4x4 offroad brigade. Take a look through some of their magazines and you should find a stockist.

Graham,

Google shows up a number of stockists of the PC925 batteries in the UK. Not sure about Sweden though

This is the Europesn site for Optima....let me know how you get on I'm interested myself. You will have to fabricate a tray or make a retaining bracket for these batteries as they are a different size.

I'm not going to get an Optima - they're too heavy. The Hawker G26EP and the Odyssey PC925 are basically the same battery and weigh just over 10kg. I have found one for £50 in the US! But then:

add $85 freight - $135

add customs 8% - $146

add 25% sales tax in Scandinavia - $ 182

and the $50 battery becomes $182. Crazy thing is that this is still cheaper than the UK sources BEFORE shipping.

I'm surprised you say the Optima is so heavy are you sure/
I like you am astonished that it's cheaper to buy the same products from the U.S. I have just sourced some very good seconhand doorpockets for my SC for £90.00 including shipping and replacing the beading on them. Here don't even ask or they are too damaged to be a worthwhile buy.

The Optima Red Top 75/35 (the lighter one of two) is 15kg

The Odyssey/Hawker battery is 10.1kg

So a significant weight saving if you are as weight-sensitive as I am. I set out to lose 100kg off the car without removing comforts, and I am 75% there :)

Both batteries are lighter than the one I have in there now

Graham,

Any chance of a breakdown of your weight-loss programme, I'm considering something similar and like you am concerned not to lose out on the comfort aspect.

To lose much weight from a Carrera you will have to make some radical changes involving ditching all emmision control devices, air conditioning and other non performance items. Replace the impact bumpers with aftermarket GRP, lose the spare wheel, change the battery for a dry cell one, lose the sound deadening, lose the rear seats etc. Once you start you can go on and on.

Jamie, I will start a new thread for this topic.

Bones, you're quite right but I have no intention of transforming my car into a RSCS! I think there's a happy compromise to be made. I have lost over 60kg so far with no comfort lost and lots more to come :)
