Hi,

It seems that 30k£ can get you a 1997 993 or a 1998 LHD 996. Assuming that both cars are in similar condition and have been services properly, what is the best buy in terms of driving pleasure/value/reliability ?

Thanks

30K will get you a RHD 996...

Value? VFM is a personal view. 993 residuals should be stronger.

Driving pleasure? Personal choice. 993s are simply brilliant (as many others here will also tell you)!

Reliability? Depends how you see risk. See 'Problems' on this forum and also some of the Porsche vs Ferrari stuff.

My advice: read a lot (here and elsewhere) and drive a lot before deciding.

Of the three values you are looking for me the 993 comes top. I own a 993 but went through a phase of looking at early 996s and drove quite a few.996 is an easier car to live with - slightly bigger inside and easier to throw around but I always ended up enjoying the drive home in the 993 more than the drive in the 996.

Not everyone likes the 993 drive though so, as maxy says, get plenty of drives in both first. Both are great cars to drive.

Think that early 996s with the 3.4 have a few reliability and engine failure probs?

Dunc
