Ok, I've now Zymoled 2 the 911s I own, and I'm hooked/convinced (despite the tree-hugging "natural product" mumbo-jumbo... as if paint were a natural product)..

... and yes, I'm very pleased with the results (and applying wax by hand *is* therapeutic, despite the time it takes)...

... but what is Klay for, and how do you use it?

I bought some, thinking that it would sort out a slightly nasty bird-lime effected patch that I have on the roof of my 993... How should I deal with it, and is Klay the stuff for the job (obviously, the poo itself is long-gone... only the marred paintwork remains)

Regards

Alan, Admin will be along in a minute I am sure to put you right, but you have done things in slightly the wrong order. Should be wash, clay, cleanse and polish. Doubt that it really matters though and it gives you an excuse to put a second coat on and get even shinier!

Sorry to butt in on Alan's post (PS Nice motors mate - how about some snaps)

still don't know what Clay / Klay is - appreciate your comments!

Well yes, I did in fact - wash, cleanse, attempted Klaying the bad bit, then wax...

... maybe not quite the right order, but in any event, the Klaying stage didn't seem to touch the rough bit of paint... That bit, the surface is kinda 'marred' - a bit mottled in fact... It doesn't have the shine of the rest of the car...

... so what am I doing wrong (and am I expecting too much of the product - I did try agressively HD cleansing that bit too, as HD is (in my own mind) mainly a polish. Maybe a more aggressive polish - T-cut or something (just for that bit) would do the job...

As far as I understand, Klay bar is for lifting and removing stuck down dirt and impurities such as road tar etc without damaging or removing the paint work.

HD cleanser is a very mild polish, ie kind of weak T-cut.

I think if the bird poo had already eaten into the paintwork and left a mark, you'll need something a bit stronger than HD, have you tried T-cut or something similar?

Had same sort of mark on my run-about, didn't even shift with T-cut, had to use some rubbing compound to get rid of it, don't know how mush paint left I've got on the body work though...I think I can see a bit of the primer...

Maybe T-cut, or some such similar (Brasso? Steel wool?) is the answer...

Lets wait see what the man says...

BTW Butzi - that looks like an interesting 993 you have assembled there. The GT3 is an awesome track tool, but when I want to drive on UK roads, I reach for the 993 - it always leaves a big smile on my face. I have an AMD fitted hi-flow exhaust system, cats, and re-map - it livens up the performance much more than you would expect from the HP gains (about 20bhp). I'm trying to decide whether to go back for the camshafts or not (for another 20)...
