Hi all,

For years now (literally) I have pondered over buying a DA polisher... and finally thought I would take the plunge.

I always felt they were too 'pro' for me and I was always happy with the finish I could achieve by hand, but after reading some article on them I bought one.

I know most of you guys are going to say – yeah, bought one ages ago.... But for those who haven't, it really is ace!!

I was always scared that I would 'burn' through the paint or mess it up big time, but these things are so easy to use and the results are superb – deffo better than by hand. I think my biggest surprise was just how easy they are to use and how quick you can do the whole car.....

This isn't a thread to show off my car (again :)) but just to say if you have debated over buying one then I would strongly recommend it....

Here's what I did and the products used...

1. Wash car,
2. Keep car wet and I used Bilt Hamber soft autoclay, I used a plant sprayer to keep the surface very wet while claying..
3. Dry car
4. Using the polisher (DAS-6 pro) I applied a layer of Meguiars ultimate compound using a Sonus SFX2 paint polishing pad. I did a panel at a time on speed 2-4.
5. Clean off with micro cloth (this is probably the most time consuming part).
6. Using the polisher I applied a layer of Meguiars Tech Wax 2.0. using a Sonus SFX4 final gloss seal pad – again a panel at a time on speed 6.
7. Clean off with a clean micro cloth.
8. Final polish with a polishing cloth.

Really happy with the results... The whole job took about 3 hours with a coffee brake....just look at those reflections... :D.

Cheers,
Lig.

I bought one last summer, my cars have never looked so good.Great results, little effort.I do mine every spring, wash, clay, wash & dry, polish twice (different pads) then final wax.

you in Yorkshire... looking at the stone work on your place ? nice polishing job..I might take the plunge myself but I need advice first !

Thanks Guys,

Yes Ady117, West Yorks. I didn't know what to do, so spoke with a chap at cleanyourcar.co.uk and he was really helpful. The products i used are a kind of do-it-all type. I know there are loads of more specialist products out there for different paint types, ages of paint, etc.. and you can end up spending £££....

I didn't want to go down this road or have the time to explore.. so am happy with what i have used and the end result...

Cheers,
Lig.

That really is clean...I haven't got a DA polisher (yet) but am contemplating this. Your car is just let down by the undressed tyres  otherwise it would look showroom fresh.

Check out Junkman2000 on youtube for a real simple step-by-step guide, do it when you have plenty of spare time....

I have one arriving this week, I'm going to get some scrap panels from the bodyshop next to my office to practice on first, then have a bash at my Clio track car which has loads of swirls, then my wife's car before I attempt anything on the 'proper' cars :D

Nice job.

Being OCD I use a rotary toothbrush as it just "feels" right :hand:

Seriously I'm not sure if you guys have ever done it but I've been a member of several forums / car clubs who have organised "open days" at local detailers.

That way you get to get tips and practice on spare body panels and its a good excuse to get together :thumb:

Very nice!

Detailing is a very addictive habit. Next you'll be using a dual light and looking for swirls!

:D

This.

I spent at least 10 hours on mine to remove swirls :o

Car still looks good though three? years later.

Looks great dude :thumb:, I'm a lazy ***** though so gave mine to someone else to polish!

Well done :thumb: I went for the other 'option' and had the car resprayed

BTW - That's a great looking shed. Good size. I can fill that for you :thumb:

Excellent, looks lovely.

It's a slippery slope, next stop will be sticking the missus's tooth brush up your tail pipe.

Yep , split the cost on a DA last year with with JJ (on here!)
It's so easy even I didn't mess it up ... I just watched a few YouTube vids before getting stuck in.

As OC says , great for removing swirls etc but is time consuming.
