It's started and I haven't even taken delivery yet....

I say this is proper planning to provide proper performance.

My 996 Facelift Cabrio is going to have new rear discs and pads fitted before I actually take delivery: would you bother with aftermarket discs and pads or stick to OEM? I'm not going track-daying anytime soon.

Secondly, the low temperature thermostat: worth it or not?

Thirdly, it comes with OEM radio cd player and the cd storage drawers below. I quite fancy the 6 disc remote changer setup which I have now: is this an easy mod? Will the wiring harness be in place?

Fourthly bi-xenons? Well let's see how the standard items perform.

What haven't I thought of? Well I'm looking at off-car hardtop storage and may well be getting a bracket fabricated to get it up on a wall and in a bag.

Winter tyres? Hmm. They're on the "fink abaht it" list.

And if one of those mods suggests a teapot and teabags to deal with the hot water....

Multi changer is so out of date
Get an ipod interconnect.
If theres a becker in it, use the cd changer plug to iphone/pod/mp3/4player.
Get your service bits/discs from eurocarparts. massive discounts at the moment.

Low temperature thermostat = definitely worth it.

Anything that aids paranoia reduction will be worth it. :thumb:

Did you post this three times just to get your point across? :floor: :floor: :floor:

Thank you for reminding me about blootoof connectivity etc. There was I :floor: worrying about my gramophone records...

Peter Tognola is fitting the stopping power, I'm pretty sure (or naive enough to imagine) that standard parts will be fit for purpose but thought I'd ask anyway.

How dare you be paranoid about my car? :p :p Get yer own

standard Headlights are like candles in jam jars :dont know:

Dont do what i did and buy super brights high watt bulbs as they burn the plastic

I stored my hard top in a bag with two ratchet straps secured to garage roof :) looked a bit dangerous but never fell down

Keep it standard, if you must listen to your iPod stick earphone in. :thumb:

I like my interior to look standard, so I use a mobridge interface with my iphone in the glovebox. I get music, bluetooth phone, and can even listen to podcasts from radio 4. :thumb:

So where do you keep your driving gloves now?

If it's a daily drive then:

1. Pagid discs and pads. Hunt around as deals can be had.
2. Get winter tryres.
3. Then get it detailed and protected for winter.

Then add iPhone/iPod interface such as Mobridge or Dension.

Then worry about the rest in spring when you've got used to it.

Just my tuppence.

:)

First thing I did was rip out the embarrassment for a stereo. Then the rubbish speakers.

Now have iPod and proper satnav. And it sounds good.

Discs- get OE pagids. Tip: carparts4less are the same company as eurocarparts but cheaper.

Lights- standard lights are absolutely fine. If you are used to xenons then the light is not so white.

Stereo- standard Becker units are actually really good quality. No Bluetooth or iPod control however you can get aux-in cables to play iPod. The standard speakers are dreadful, replace with even budget Alpine or Pioneer for a massive improvement.
