Dear all,

I am soon to become the proud owner of a brand spanky new 996 C4S and I am very excited. Unfortunately my happiness is tainted somewhat when I try to find an Insurance company that isn't completely barmy. Prices have ranged from £2000 to £4500 with the PCGB recommended companies. I'm 32 with a clean driving licence living in (quite a nice part of) North London - any ideas?

Thanks Sutchy! Any ideas that don't require the purchase of a small farm and a helicopter?!

they sound like some of the quotes i have had as a 19 yr old on cars such as fiestas! :(

£2000 is probably not far off the mark given the brand spankyness of the car esp. if you're parking it on-street. Any part of London is just daft for Insurance.

I assume you've tried Carole Nash ? Remember they do a 10% PCGB discount which is quite a big help ! They did me a very good deal this year.

Otherwise there are numerous threads on here re. Insurance - just type Insurance into the search function and you'll find them !

Best deal I found last year was £3,500 !! And i haven't had a single speeding fine or claim in 10 years... Then when someone dinted my car and I needed to calim, they tried to get out of it!

They are soooo greedy.

This year I solved the problem by getting Europe-wide Insurance and registration in Sweden. Costs me £900 for widr cover. Go figure... 8)

Good riddance Uk Insurance...

Jamie

In my experience only 2 companies have consistently provided "decent" quotes on my 1997 targa over the past 4 years. I have lived in SE London and Kent and have always had full NCB, garaged etc etc. but have nevr paid more than £1000 with an excess of £500-600

The first in Norwich Union Direct - make sure you go direct and not through a broker because broker prices for NU are about 30% higher than the equivalent direct price. Mention if you have any other policies with NU (eg contents or whatever) coz that gets you a 5% discount. And when you have been quoted a price, be brazen and ask charmingly for the 10% discount that all NU direct operators are pre-authorised to grant.

The second is Tesco - you get a 5% discount for going online. I changed to them from Admiral this year and pay just under £1000 with a £600 excess with my wife as a named driver

Until this year Admiral were also very reasonable but they suddenly hiked the premium by 50% to the level of the rest of the field - but they are still worth a try.

Good luck!

Mazz

Another idea is one of the increasingly available 'portfolio' Insurance schemes. This covers car, house, contents, travel, health etc in a single policy and usually offers a big saving over conventional separate policies.

Typical the link I was going to post doesn't work any more and the company seems to have vanished - maybe not such a great idea then !

Anyone got details on companies that do Portfolio Insurance? I've been thinking about switching to something like that for a while.

I had talked to one company a while back, but they weren't keen to do anything as I wanted my then girlfriend on the policy, but we weren't married. We are now, so I guess it'll be easier.

Colin

Try online only companies, I got a very good deal considering I am only 26 with elephant.co.uk.

I got several quotes today - for a LHD 993 C4S worth 30-35k - I am 38 with full NCB and no points, no claims etc. Quotes ranged from 1600 with 850 excess to best price of 1,050 from Privelage. Best part was when I asked about the cost of adding the wife, the cost came DOWN £50 ( so much for all the cliche jokes.....)
