I now that this topic makes a regular appearance, but after recommending Elephant to lots of people they only go and give me a huge renewal fee!

I currently have a best quote from Tesco?! Can anyone suggest websites or numbers for companies who can deal with youngish drivers (je suis 24 ans) who drive a Porsche.

Any help will be appreciated

Dunc

Tesco were the best (and nigh on only) company I found. If the shoe fits and all that jazz (I have no idea where that comment came from!)

Dunc,

I had the same problem with elephant, used them for a year and then they hiked up the price. Around the time of my renewal I got a mail out from Bell Direct, who are a sister company of elephant. I gave them a go because they let you put 2 cars on the policy with the same NCD. They were £300 cheaper than elephant!!!

Same parent company, same underwriters but £300 cheaper!!! How??

I'm 27 and had the same problem - Admiral put my quote up by about 85% last month. The best quote I found (Elephant and Tesco included) came from Carole Nash (who also give a 10% discount to PCGB members). Quotes from the same company seem to vary enormously dependent upon the age of the car, expected mileage and various other factors - so the simple answer is that there is no simple answer ! You just have to keep ringing all of the companies out there to find the best quote for your particular set of circumstances - not terribly helpful I'm afraid !

Have a look at
www.confused.com

The idea is you fill in one form and they do the rest of the work for you. I've heard good things about them (although they were rubbish for me with my previous car).

Definitely worth a try

Just tried that site out of curiosity to see what they come up with - looks really useful. I got all the way through their on-line form and then the bloody site crashed on me
Can't be arsed to sit here and plug it all in again ! Anyone else who has a go please post how they get on !

Privilege quoted me £880.00 fully comp for a 993C4S, garaged, in Surrey, full NCB, clean licence, £500xs first part of any claim and £150 voluntary xs. Seemed ok to me. Only £38 more than for my Scooby and that requires a Tracker installed whereas the 993 doesn't?

Thanks people,

Privilege wont quote as I'm not yet 25 unfortunately and I've filled in the details on confused.com so I'll see what they come up with - their site seemed good but very fussy over password - I had to try about five before it accepted it!

Will give Carole Nash a phone too although I never got round to joining PCGB.

Cheers

Dunc,

I'd go ahead and join the PCGB if I were you even if you don't go with Carole Nash (incidentally the 10% discount saved me almost twice the PCGB annual subscription !). The monthly mag is pretty good (esp. the classifieds) and they do organise one or two interesting events / track days etc. - it is a bit stuffy but there are plenty of younger members who get a lot out of the club.

I just had issues moving from Brentwood to Chiswick with my GT3. The main problem was that nobody had a classification for the car. I had a quote from Tesco and the cost to insure a GT2 was half the price of the GT3.

Anyway through the GT3 Register I found a contact of Chris Wilkins on 0208 773 8123. Even though his cheapest GT3 quote was 700 more than I was paying in Brentwood, he did me a package to include my Mini Cooper S, and the overall increase was £300 a year, which isn't bad when you are moving from outside London, into W4, and the cars will be parked on driveway instaed of garaged. The other good thing is, it includes trackday cover for any marshalled track days in the UK. You just need to pay a small premium each time depending on the cost of the car. For the GT3 it costs £100 for each track day, which is good value in my mind.

Give him a call and see what he can do for you. Tell him you'd like a similar deal to me.

I had the same issue with Elephant - renewal came through & they'd hiked the price. What I did was get a brand new quote off their site as a new customer, using "slightly" different details (last digit of my postcode). The price came back virtually the same as last year!! When I got my policy through I emailed them about my "silly" spelling mistake and they corrected my details no problem!

Nathan, I tried that elephant 'scam' last month where I used my new postcode (the website had my old address details for login etc.) but they still didn't come up with the goods.

Jamie, I do intend to join the club at some point - probably once I've sorted out my direct debit nightmare. Carole Nash were out of contention for my car but did admit that they are better with classic policies and over 25s.

Sean, sounds like you managed to get your Insurance(s) covered in one swoop, don't think it will work for me as I'm a one car, social use only and no track cover required at the moment kind of policy holder.

Thanks again for the advice though

Think Tesco win the battle with £1200, second prize goes to confused.com with £1350 and non runner was elephant with £1500 after a 10% discount!!

Having an auto windscreens repair bloke come out tomorrow to look at a chip on my screen as I can get it free on my current policy (no £50 excess - special offer). The chip is not bad and doesn't bother me but just thought I'd get something out of my policy before it runs out.

Has anyone had a chip repaired - is it noticeable ie. does it look worse than the chip?

I recently went to Carole Nash, they gave the best quote by far.

One other to try is Peart, they gave me the second best quote
