Indy Pre-Purchase Inspection + OPC Warranty Claim Idea

Just wondering if anyone has had the same idea and if people think it would work / is a good idea.

I m thinking of trying to find a tidy 997.1 with OPC warranty remaining.
Then get an Indy to inspect the car thoroughly including boroscope cylinders and check IMS bearing etc......(know major faults) and get any faults found put right FOC by an OPC dealer.

I guess the question is would the OPC recognise the indy inspection and if yes would OPC be willing to correct the faults or would they try and wriggle out saying parts not yet failed or wear and tear etc...?

Anyone done similar or got any thoughts on the idea ???

This must happen all the time. A pal of mine bought an Audi A8 at auction for a song, still under warranty and had it serviced at Audi straight away. The dealer managed to 'find' £8k worth of warranty work all approved by Audi and carried out FOC :thumb:

Why not pay for OPC 111 point check and then have any faults rectified by the dealer via the OPC warranty?

I understand the concerns of scored cylinders and IMS failure but if the car has OPc warranty anyway you'd be covered if either occurred during your ownership.

Good suggestion but would porsche be willing to inspect a car on their own warranty scheme to find faults they have to pay to fix at their expense ??? IMO It would not be in there interest as I would'nt renew the warranty after all the repairs had been carried out as the car would be as good as new and very unlikely to fail in the immediate future.

Plus I'm thinking would the Porsche 111 point check include boroscope work etc... ??? Personally I m not sure the porsche 111 point inspection would be that detailed or at least not as thorough as an INDY who makes his money from inspections and repairs. Plus having an independent inspection removes any conflict of interest between the inspector and the warranty provider which would exisit if they were the same people IMO..

Plus the idea is to buy a car with warranty remaining, get all faults repaired under warranty and then not renew the OPC warranty. I m prepared to take the risk on a properly inspected and repaired car as I only intend to own for 2-3 years with low annual mileage so if all major faults fixed I would see this as an acceptable risk.

plus if I buy a 2004 997 I would not be able to renew the OPC warranty after next year anyway.

Yes, Porsche would be willing to inspect and repair your car under the OPC warranty. Their technicians will diagnose the faults. I believe the dealer claims the costs back from Porsche UK. The 111 point check will cost circa £200 but does not include bore scope. That cost is extra. If you have OPC warranty and have concerns regarding the symptoms related to this problem then they'll perform the bore scope at their cost. It's what they did for me.

I'm not sure how the dealer would roll if you went to them with a list of faults that somebody outside their network have diagnosed. I suspect they would want to perform their own diagnosis at which point they might as well perform the check in the first place.

If the vehicle you're buying comes with OPC warranty then IMO the best way to mitigate the risk of the costs associated with these well known faults is to extend the warranty for as long as you can. Just because the car may have a clean bill of health in your first year doesn't mean they won't occur in yrs 2 or 3.

Cheers for the comments you have made me look at things differently and I agree with what you have suggested.

Am I right in understanding you can have your car inspected for faults by opc at anytime as long as you have the warranty.

Yes, an OPC will happily inspect the car regardless of whether you have warranty or not, the difference is who pays.

Normally they like you to demonstrate the faults as part of a test drive.
