I think I'm smitten

Now I think I'm beginning to understand what all the fuss is about.

To cut a short story long When I got my car I knew it needed bodywork (scuttle & arch rust, stone chips so decided to get re-sprayed) also the interior needed some TLC, all mechanically fine & well fettled previously. So soon after I got it in November I started work & amongst other things stripped the interior. With Xmas out of the way & a new job sorted by Feb I then sent her to the bodyshop.

I got my car back from the bodyshop last weekend & have spent every night last week refurbishing the interior parts that were left in (for driving), fitting a new stereo & getting rid of a lot of old wiring so back to stock, & basically refitting the interior, why do things never go back as they came out, & getting very cold & wet in the process due to the lovely english spring.

The reason was that we were away this weekend & my Wife & kids were going with her family on Friday morning, I had to work so was following in the evening, ideal time to go for my first proper drive :D great plan I thought.

So got back Friday evening & spent another 3 hours working on her (was only supposed to take an hour) & was really pleased with the results, fired her up in anticipation everything seemed to work properly &....................... couldnt get the bloody screen to de-mist, gutted

So after a 3hr drive back on Sunday the first thing I did was go for a drive in the 993 of course & try to suss the de-mist issue. Anyway whilst running when I was doing the tyre pressures it misted up again, but as soon as I got going it cleared nicely (Oh I wish I had taken it on the Friday instead of giving up as I was rushing).

So I went for a quick drive, that lasted an hour & a half  , the only reason I didnt keep going is as I didnt want to get in any more trouble :x .

What a car, everything felt right, sorted, planted, slick, powerful, this is what driving pleasure is about, I was looking at the dash which I originally thought a bit bland & now it kinda seems perfect. Now I think I get it & understand why they get to you, why you feel the need to really look after them to OCD standards, upgrade (little treats for her), fettle & caress. This feels like the beginning of a long & expensive relationship (best not tell the missus).

So now I know that you lot are not loonies but are very well informed & educated folk, hats off to you all!

Oh no - another nutter!

The real difference between a 993 and a mistress is that you never get tired of it - indeed it gets better each time.

Welcome to the club!

Now you mention something that frustrates me and potentially we could get an answer on here......screen misting up. I it is wet or damp or cold outside mine mists and doesn't clear. Which with our weather can be everyday!
If I put the aircon on this does keep it clear. If I keep the heating on cold then wait sometime and turn to warm it often then not clears.
So is there a fix for this or is it another quirk of the 993?

:welcome:

I also find my car tends to mist up in damp weather but the demist button does clear it. However once I turn this off, it's only a matter of time before it gradually fogs up again. In my case, I think my driver's door seal could do with replacing which could be exacerbating the problem. The demister this winter has been much better than last, as I now have working a/c.

Apologies to the OP for the thread hijack.

I never had a problem with the screen misting up in my 933 except when I left it parked outside overnight. :dont know:

Same here. Never a problem with mistinig up. make sure you have no residual damp anywhere just in case.

Check under the scuttle trim for water, the fresh air intake bellows can leak water and this could cause this issue, along with misting the dials up...

I also have misty dials. Can someone send me a picture of the above or point me in the right direction as I have no idea......where the scuttle trim is?

Behind no.2 on the borrowed picture is the bellows.

You can sometimes find water pooling in front and below here if the belows are damaged / incorrectly fitted

Olly

Olly thanks for this. Where and what are the bellows on this photo?
Why cant Hayes do a manual for the 993!

The big rubber bit behind no.2 that goes up to the mesh air inlet for the HVAC system. I only mention it as mine wasnt seated correctly after a scuttle repair and the first sign was my clocks seemed to be misting up, on further investigation i noticed water dripping down the belows after washing the car.
