I'm soon - next month - to be looking at buying my first Porsche, I've seen one which is tempting but I need a PPI or similar carried out on it. However, the car is currently without tax and so can't be moved from it's current location somewhere in Birmingham. Has anyone heard of a technician coming out to do an inspection?

Thank you for the reply. The name Peter Morgan rings a bell though from my previous research on PPI's on this forum; I seem to remember him not being very well recommended to say the least! I will look him up though.

I've never used Peter Morgan, I've read his articles/books and his general feedback is very good. He's widely regarded for a reason.

Remember he provides a mobile service so there will be limitations on what he can/can't do. If you want the full check then you'll need the seller to transport the car to facilities which have a ramp.

I'll do some more reading on Peter Morgan, thank you.

Peter Morgan knows these cars - of that there is no doubt. Two limitations:

1. He may sub-contract the work to one of his network - so you don't know that inspector's knowledge and experience with what you want to buy. But Peter would say he vets any sub-contractor closely to satisfy himself of their experience and the stabndard they work to - after all its the Peter Morgan brand that suffers if sends an idiot to do the inspection - not the idiot himself.

2. The biggest limitation by far - mobile inspection = trolley jack inspection. I ssimply cannot accept this to be adequate - stand under a Porsche jacked up to the sky on a ramp - you'll see what I mean when I tell you its dark, cramped and crowded and even on a ramp there is a degree of visual obstruction. Also there are some comments on this forum about the test drive - apparently it has been known for him/his inspector to follow behind the inspection car being driven by someone eelse! That's a very limited inspection - the test drive is all about the feel - the boost pressure, the clutch, seamless tiptronic shifts, the brake pedal feel, pullinmg to one side or other, suspension and geometry set-up. How this can be achieved by following the inspection car is beyond me.

BUT

If this is the only option of an inspection it is MUCH BETTER than having no inspection.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Thank you but as stated he is currently refusing to move the car from his premises due to no car tax.
