Re the ashtray, it should have a light given the translucent panel in the back of the pull out tray. It appears that there is a rubber hole in the top of the container where the bulb should go? Mine is empty and checking it will involve removing the two screws that hold the unit to the bottom of the upper dash. At this point I lost interest.
