Help required please. I am looking for a 996 with a manual gearbox, but don't know much about Porsches other than what I've seen or read. I want to spend approx. £32K - £33K. Any suggestions on what to look for and any cars available at the moment??

For that money I think you will need to look to the private adds or maybe able to get one from a specialist.

Northway Porsche Specialist -
www.northwayporsche.co.uk
have a car for £36. I got mine from there and they are good.

beware early (pre 2000) cars are prone to porous heads and can cost if past the 3 yr warranty, get a good late low mile 993.

Or LHD 996....It can take ages to find the right one though. I spent months searching. Justabout all pre 2000 cars with problems would have been fixed under warranty.

Or you could always go for my June 99 Carrera, LHD, FPSH, 16,500 miles, bought Porsche centre Hannover May 2002, with one previous (80 year old!) owner, for sale JUST over your price band!!;-)

But seriously, I would go for a 996 despite its well-known Boxster similarities and apparent normalcy. Most 993s now look just the wrong side of the modern / just replaced but still phwoar! / old clunker / old classic divide.

993 RS, Turbo, GT2 respectfully excepted (of course!)

Mine is pre-2000 and goes like a dream !!! - I can see the appeal of the 993 from purist stand point but the 996 looks devine and goes like stink
