Help! my toddler hates my 911!

I bought a 993 Targa recently, and bought a kiddy seat in anticipation of happy family outings.

I cannot get my toddler in it! She was really scared and screamed and fought so we could not fasten the seat into the car, no amount of sooting words from the missus or myself would help, to the point she was sick! (well caught Mrs B... no trim damage!)

I don't know if it is because the Porsche Prince child seat is very restrictive, or because she does not like the noise of the car.

Anyone got any ideas as to how she might be persuaded, or has anyone had similar experience?

Thank you

Robert.

Our 3 yr old loves my 993, but when I had a bike he wouldn't go anywhere near it, esp when the engine's running. With kids, you can't force them.

You can try it by gently letting her get use to the idea. Let her see you sitting in it, come home in it. Let her look at it being used through the window, then see it in the flesh, wthout engine running. Try then sit in it without engine running, let her climb in her self. Bring some of her favorite toys with her. Bit by bit I'm sure she'll get used to it and start loving it. Just try and make it a pleasant event rather than something she has to do.

Good luck.

All good advice- thanks folks, I'll let you know how the assimilation progresses... I have started by taking the Porsche Prince seat out, and letting her play with it indoors.

I had a similar experience with my sprogs. The Porsche Prince seat is quite restrictive and feels very odd if they are used to a conventional seat. I got round it by bribing with jelly tots. This got them into the vehicle and the are now quite used to it. Still keep the jelly tots handy. Kids love it now, they enjoy the noise and shout "whee" when I corner or accelerate quickly. The only problem is tha they sit quite low so can't see very much. I've found an hour to one and ahalf hours is the maximum they will sit in the seats.

Older sprog (nearly four) knows the Porsche is Daddy's special car and that the engine is at the back and boot at the front. So before any trip I always have to pop the engine cover and luggage compartment lid, just so she can check.

Good luck!

My elder daughter went through a phase of not liking the Porsche, but when she found out the boys drool over it, she wants me to take her everywhere in it.

Feel she has totally the wrong attitude to the car

A quick update-

Daughter still reminds me frequently "don't like daddy pawwrsh", and the usual response to "come on, we're going in the car to the...." is met with "mummy car, not pawwwrsh"

I coaxed her into the garage last night, where she eyed the car suspiciously, before saying "Hello!" which was encouraging.

However, I opened the car door to get a CD out and she burst into tears.

Hmmm. Would make an interesting case for a TV Documentary, with assistance from a child behaviour expert don't you think?

Spookily however, I learned at the weekend that my mother-in-law's uncle died in a car crash some years ago...in a Porsche.

postamble();
MMM having kids throw up in various cars and it takes months to get rid of the smell I would take her reluctance as a blessing not a curse.

You could buy her a porker pedal car and get her used to it that way :)

Or ask her to give the car a name, that can help if they name the car they see it as less threatening.

Of course you could always re-spray it pink and tell her its Barbies car LOL

Cheers

Tom

Her and me both Tony!

In a development over the w/e, she was just as concerned about my father's BMW estate, but soon got used to it. Perhaps I am pandering to her too much, and should just get her in and drive off...

FWIW, we have started calling the car Percy in the hope that it will seem more friendly!

Those Porsche seats with the bolster in front are so restrictive. We gave up (some years ago) and bought a KL Jeenay seat with five point harness that fitted quite comfortably in the rear seats.

But by age ten my eldest had outgrown the rear of a 911......

Mel,

I've had a good look on the web and can't seem to find any info in KL seats (aside from your mention in PH!) Do you have any more info, suppliers etc. as I reckon you are right about the seat.

Do you have a 993? Did the car require modification for the harness?

thanks

Robert.
