Does anyone know of someone to clean-up / restore 996 gen 2 headlights in the west London / Surrey areas please?

Any decent detailer should be able to help you here. From what i understand once the surfaces are polished up you can then get a product to seal them.

Some very useful info here and step by step DIY.

you could even get a ppf applied once cleaned up

Renn Works in Stevenage did mine. Fantastic job. Maybe too far for you but a great service.

Polished mine with a DA, looked great for a while, but soon went foggy again, 2k clear or ceramic coating seems to be the way to go

Based in Wembley, but are mobile with a van and canopy thing. Took my 996 headlights out, polished and then clearcoated them. Offer a 3 year warranty. Said they'd reckon minimum 5 year protection if kept indoors.

Cost £175 (including an additional amount to travel to me over in Essex).

Very happy with their service.

Thanks a lot for this folks.

These Wembley folks look local (enough) and competitive. Reno Works in Stevenage a bit far out for me.

Thanks again!

Have a go yourself Autoglym headlight restoration kit. I did mine last week, £27 for the kit and £5 for low tack masking tape! My headlights were terrible and came up looking like new. It’s very very easy to do with a drill

Only downside with the kits that help you do them yourself is that they don’t stay clear for long - unless you take them out and lacquer them properly (easy to ***** up). If the car lives in a garage it might be ok for longer - but reckon on 3 months over summer before they start to yellow off again otherwise.

After doing mine about 3 times I finally coughed up the money to pay ROC headlights to come and do them properly - now I don’t have that niggle that every time I see the car I wonder whether they’ve got a shade cloudier or not!

Spoke to the ROC folks. £160+VAT including travel. Seems very reasonable to me.

Now got me thinking about doing all the cars at the same time :-/. I have an early E93 M3 whose lights all round could do with a little polish, rears have gone especially "flat". Maybe some of these DIY kits could suffice on an old largely red (cheap to replace) BMW unit.......
