Could someone familiar with this put me straight? I'm taking the 993 over to France in a weeks time, so had a go at changing the switch for the dip pattern... I've looked at the various threads on here, but can't decide amongst the confusion of LHD, RHD, LH light RH light, position C, D etc. so...

The picture is my driver's side light, can someone who knows tell me with certainty if that's set for UK or Europe (I haven't moved it).

Is there a trick to moving the lever? It didn't really want to slide and I was wary about applying too much force.

Thanks
Martin

Hi,

As you are based in the UK your car will be set for RHD, (must be or you would have failed an MOT) therefore move the lever from your current position to the other. What the lever does is "flatten" the dipped beam. My car is LHD but when I exported it to the UK from Q8 the lights were switched over using the lever inside the head light as shown in your picture to pass the MOT.

When I set off to Spain I flicked the lever back for LHD, it did require a little waggling but it did move. I suppose as these levers have not been used for many years, mine was first moved 3 years ago when the car was 15 years old they probably get a bit stiff. Be gentle with it and it will move.

You can then check the beam by lining the car up close to a wall / garage door and checking that the beam is now flat. Remember your main beam will be the same as it is now.

ATB :)

When I did mine it was a real pig to move but did move in the end

Thanks DC, that's the approach I should have taken rather than try and interpret the instructions in the manual which are written from the LHD perspective, will definitely try to compare the beam patterns - I admire your confidence in the consistency of MOT testers, personally, I wouldn't put money on it :D - In fact, I'm thinking (if I manage to flick the switch) of leaving them on the flat pattern - if the view ahead for pedestrians/cyclists etc. looks ok - with the HIDs I feel I'm being a bit unkind to vehicles in lane 1 when overtaking on dual carriageways etc., even correctly adjusted the lights look like they're hitting their mirrors... MOT's due next month, be interesting to see if it's picked up.

Cheers Rob, I'll try a bit more force/wiggling, just a bit scared of breaking something.
