The girlfriend and I are going on holiday to San Francisco / Los Angeles / Chicago. We're hiring a car (SUV maan) and will driving the Golden coast, Highway 1/101 etc. Lots of sight seeing etc as well.

Was initially thinking GoPro for mounting in car etc but Im up for alternative suggestions. Be good if its a size to fit in her handbag.

IMO you can't beat a go pro :thumb:

I bought not long ago an In Car Windscreen Window Suction Cup Mount for a fiver from ebay (a number of differents ones exist to suit all tastes !!!)

And I did use it for the first time properly at Goodwood Charity day with my Panasonic HDC-SD90 camcorder and I would say the results are excellent.

So if you have a good compact camcorder already then you only need to spend that fiver and you will get excellent results. The other pro cameras specifically design for that also have GPS features which are useful if you want to plot and back-trace your trip but they will end up costing a lot more. If its video quality you are interested in then IMHO a good quality camcorder with a mount will give you the best results

I used to record HD video on my compact camera suction mounted to the windscreen. Worked reasonably well except it would occasionally auto-focus on the screen rather than the road, and battery life was no more than half an hour :nooo:

A GoPro ain't cheap but it's a great bit of kit :thumb:

I have a go pro and like it, battery life...

Just saw the new sony "action" cam, looks good too.

Yup, Go Pro is the ticket....whether it be on the roll cage, windscreen,
bedroom wall...it's the way to go..

Yeah the more I think about it, I'll most likely use it for car and bike stuff back home.

Whats the GoPro like to hold/ carry when not screen / dash / helmet mounted?

She's no game for the on bedroom wall stuff, any tips on camouflaging?

Stick a couple of plasters over the light (glows red when
filming, which is quite appropriate, lol !)....set to wide
angle...and hide it as best you can....

The hero 3 allows you to disable the LEDs and beeps to go into full "Sliver" mode
