So picked the car up after driving it to London about 6 weeks ago.

It got a full Geo set up again by Centre Of Gravity near Coventry, due to the KW front springs letting me down after the last Geo. I then drove it down to London to leave it with 9 excellence for a major service and remap.

They managed to find two boost leaks on the car, the main one was from a clip on the diverter valves which was allowing boost to escape. After they addressed this and were happy there was no more boost leaks they gave the car a major service.

The car only received a major service last year and this service according to the service schedule should have been a minor one, however with the remap I felt it best to give it a major one and a full clean bill of health. So all fluids including engine oil, gearbox oil, coolant and brake fluid was replaced, along with spark plugs, oil filter and pollon filter etc.

During the service they discovered that there was a substantial leak from the two front side rads, I knew going over that I was loosing coolant and suspected the rads but was hoping it would be a small leak from a coolant hose, however it wasn't and the two side rads and condensers had to be replaced. They also found that the brake lines on the front were corroded and recommended changing them. These were replaced with Goodridge braided lines front and rear. I was starting to get a judder when releasing the clutch, this started to appear about two weeks before dropping the car off. The lads at Centre Of Gravity suggested that the engine mounts might be to blame, so I got 9 excellence to change the two mounts for some RSS tarmac series ones, this has cured the judder so the mounts were to blame.

The car was going over with two deep scratches on the passenger side rear quarter panel, caused by myself when cleaning the car by the wiper falling down inverted and scratching paint another one on the front passenger wing and a front bumper and rear quarter panel with paint that was not 100% match, (rear panel painted before my ownership for cosmetic purposes). I decided to just bite the bullet and get these sorted while it was over there and Ken at 9 excellence got me a good price by the the crowd they use. Delighted to say it turned out great.

So after all the service items were complete they went about tuning the car.
They had the logs which I took from my original FVD remap and they were not overly impressed by them. The main guy at 9 exellence seems to know his stuff, I didn't understand pretty much anything he was talking about when he was referring to the tuning as he was referring to formulae and things I didn't have a breeze about. However I was confident. It was their stage 3 remap that I got, as the car had all the hardware already on the car to utilize that setup, including the uprated clutch, intercoolers, exhaust, cats, diverter valves and turbos. This stage 3 setup is rated at approx 600bhp running 1.2/1.3 bar of boost. They completed the tuning and informed me that they were happy with the results.

From their website

Stage 3

Performance improves from 60-130mph by approx. 5 seconds over standard performance of approx. 11.95 seconds regardless of model.

Importantly our maps are programmed in line with Porsche standards. Porsche target 11.76 Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) when on full boost

So the 60-130mph sprint should now take 7 seconds instead of the 12.

They then suggested that I may want to consider upgrading the brakes, this was something I had been contemplating for a while now so decided to do it, so they replaced the front brakes with some new GT3 6 pot motorsport callipers and 350mm GT3 discs.

So picked the car up on Friday and drove it 350 miles to Hollyhead for a Ferry home later that day, all I can say is im delighted with the results, the car is an absolute flyer and it's good to know that these gains have been achieved by a recognised tuner with a great reputation for reliably tuning these. Delighted with results, now its just to find a GTR to see how it fairs out

I would like to say a big thanks to Ken and Adam at 9 excellence and Chris and Pete at Centre of Gravity for all the work and help they have done and given me in relation to this car, im thrilled with the results and would highly recommend both companies. HUGE thanks :thumb:

very.. very nice. And in the best colour too.

I'd love to take a trip in a 600bhp 996turbo.. can only imagine how loony that would be.

What a great write up, glad you're over the moon with it

Glad your happy with it, those boys at 9E know their stuff, lovely looking car as well.

Great read :thumb:
I'm also on the same slippery modding slope so was very interesting to read what you had done.

I've also used both of these companies for my mods so far & both have delivered a fantastic service & would highly recommend them.

What turbos are you running? & what supporting mods have been done?

I've been holding back for a while now but I'm struggling to resist getting more work done, especially after reading your post

Thanks again for a great read.

It's most definitely a slippery slope, but its a good one all the same :thumb:

I've had the car nearly three years now, I bought it totally standard and over the course of the next few years upgraded things as they needed replacing and in some cases because I wanted to upgrade them.

Supporting mods on the car are, in the order I got them as far as I can remember.....

Forge Diverter Valves
Forge F-pipe
DMS remap (now gone)
Cargraphic exhaust / 200 cell cats
KW V3 coilovers
New oil lines/stainless steel bolts
BMC panel filter
K16/16G turbos
1 bar actuators
5 bar fuel pressure regulator
FVD remap (not a great experience)
Sachs 890 upgraded clutch
Light weight flywheel
997.2 GT2 RS intercoolers
GT3 6pot motorsport callipers and 350mm discs
Braided brake lines
Rss Tarmac series engine mounts
9 excellence stage 3 tune

I find the K16/16G turbos fantastic, especially since Ken has got the mapping right. They have so much boost so early in the rev range. I'm seeing 1.3 bar of boost from 4K rpm and 1.2 before that and 1bar pretty much straight away. Just feathering the throttle at motorway speeds results in a surge of power, regardless of gear. These turbos retain the low spool of the K16 standard turbo but move more air than a standard K24 turbo, so it's best of both Worlds I find.

It's really transformed the car. The only mod I'm not completely sold on is the LWFW. It's noisy and can catch you out by dropping revs quickly, can result in car cutting out, but you get used to heel and toe techniques to keep revs up when you expect it to struggle.

Hope that's helpful

Its strange but I really dont like the way the car trys to come on boost at any given opertunity, for example cruising at say 90 on the motorway I just have to touch the throttle and its reading 0.3 bar or similar, I will be fitting a completely different turbo set up shortly so wil report on that when it happens.

Keep us up to date, what turbos are you thinking of fitting??

I quite like the way I don't have to wait until a set in stone rpm for the boost to kick in while in high gears at cruising speed.

Nice mods Remote.
Can I ask you the following:
Cruising around and up to say 80mph hows the noise levels compared with the original.
Those bigger brakes, would you go back to the original or have the same mod done again.
Thanks

Noise is fine, very tolerable, infact of all the cars that ive owned with performance exhausts, this is the best, I get no drone at motorway speeds, I can cruise along at 60/70/80 and have a conversation.

The main issue with noise is the LWFW, you really have to keep the revs up around 3K RPM otherwise the engine sounds like a bag of spanners, its very noticeable in the car. So exhaust wise, the Cargraphic is great for noise, the LWFW not so much. Its probably the one mod id consider changing back to standard.

The brakes are fantastic!!

I know that alot of threads get put up about how the standard brakes on the Turbo feel below standard, and alot of the time people state that its because there not over servo assisted. However there is a substantial difference between the GT3 spec setup and standard. My standard setup had new discs and Brembo pads over the last few months so they were in perfect working order. Thats not to say the standard setup is not good enough, because it is, its just that the GT3 setup is even better, by quite some margin.

On a road car a LFW can be a real pain in the ass ....noise can get even worse when you switch on the A/C....I had that problem with a previous car. But it make the car rev quicker from low down. Good on racing car.

Excellent thread and love the reports on parts!

My car has a 9E history and is buffing for turbos next, interesting on the gt3 brakes, are thy brand new or do they ounce quality second hand calipers for you before new disks and pads?

Enjoy!

Really good mods on that baby. You could go for 3" crossflow system with 100 cells cats. That would improve power delivery at the top end......big time. ( speedtechexhaust.com) With that sort of power you need it.

The brakes are brand new, 9E keep a few sets in stock so it was too tempting to not go for a new set, plus you get the added bonus of knowing there's no history behind them. It really is a good upgrade.

Apparently the braided lines make a good difference to pedal feel, was told they can be a bit Spongey without. I haven't experienced the GT3 upgrade without braided lines but it feels great with them.

I know it's recommended to run 100cell cats for this power but the 200cell cats and Cargraphic are perfect for me, I love the sound and there's no drone.

The car is very drivable and I use it most days.

Am looking forward to coming across something to test it with.
